Timing Belt Kits
Hi Everyone.
Im a new member and have just bought my very first Subaru. But I need some help please......!!! Ive bought a new Timing belt kit, which includes the tensioner and belt for my Impreza wrx 2003. The car has done 67k and the last owner didnt change it. The question im asking is....Do I need to change all the pulley Idlers aswell? Thanks for your help everyone..... Gandy:) |
the subaru garage I had chat with regarding this said they are changed on condition
i.e. they inspect them when they change the belt but an independent mechanic who just changed my belt didn't change them -- he also said -- and i dont know how true this is, that the flat four config is quite easy on cambelt tensioners and idlers |
Idlers should be checked when replacing the belt;
Usually, the grease in the idler bearings does dry out; which becomes quite evident as they spin extremely freely and are noisy when spun. |
Its well overdue a belt change by nearly 10k :eek: so sooner the better if the previous owner didnt change it (I would see what else he/she didnt do, a full major service is about 600 quid, its worth it in the long run :))
