track day will i need a baffled sump
 

im looking at doing a track day maybe croft or oulton park ,my scooby is a 1992 wrx running 296 bhp the engine was rebuilt before i bought it got a recipt for 3600 quid forged pistons new crank shells heads skimmed ect

i just dont wanna kill the crank due to oil starvation on track i will only be doing 20 min sessions and on standard road tyres ,whiteline arb back and front ect and hks springs .iv got millers 10/60 oil in the engine

just need abit of advice from u guys will i be ok with the standard sump

i have done trackdays before but this will be my first in a scooby really wanna do one but dont wanna kill the crank

any advice will be helpfull :cool:

Some will say you need a sump baffled or such like i have run with semi slicks at oulton and cadwell without a baffled sump and spa and the ring come to mention.
Brakes i noticed you didnt mention just make sure you have good pads and decent fluid in and get your goe set up and have fun .......

Been fine for me so far, thats on 888's too

imho it's long high G cornering that will do your engine harm, so road tyres should be fine as they offer less grip, I've only done Blyton (rallyx circuit).

Yeah you will no doubt kill thoses pads, a mate did 1155's on the road!!!!!

DS2500 work well as do performance friction

As per Dunx, it is the long corners that have the greater effect.. like Clearways at Brands.

These bends are also likely to cause fuel surge.

As for brakes, I quite like the Ferodo DS2500 but I hear (and planning to get these next) the Performance Friction ones are superb!

best i got for ds2500 was 150 front pair from scoobyworld iirc. They have coped with several days at brands, and donny in a sti4 without a baffled sump...

I managed to boil my brand new brake fluid by relying too heavily on the brakes.... pedal clacked against the bulkhead, I shifted down and turned in, then went round for a couple of laps to calm down.

Advice is build up your speed gradually and be kind to the brakes, apply firmly at first and ease off the pedal as you enter the corner. Mostly enjoy.

thanks dunk iv done croft ,donnington ,cadwell and elvington before but in a saxo vts running 157bhp on group n suspension and fully omp cage ,buckets ect

so im abit unsure in the scooby so i will not be going mad ha ha

was a fun car on track

very needed even though i have blown a forged zen built motor with baffled sump at CC.Not track day stuff though actual race series.

Touch wood, I've not suffered but I normally run RE070's, occasionally R888's. A baffled sump is on my to-do list though.

M1155 crumbled on me, DS2500 are OK but not an ideal track pad. I run PF Z compound all round with PF floating discs although recently changed to 01 compound front and can't fault the braking.

guess it depends on your hardcoreness.

Im not very hard on the brakes, untill ive got every corner nailed every time i wont take the mic on the braking.

So where do you guys get your baffled sumps then? How much? I guess it cant hurt to get one..

My bro ran xp10's on his evo brembo's and loved em...

looks like zen does them less than 200 quid

but can u get the sump off with the engine in the car to fit it
