quick Rack worth it..?

Hi,

This is a question for all those with R's and RA quick racks.

I need to replace mine (i think) was wondering if you thought the 3rd of a less turn is worth double the cost of a normal rack?

Or should i get a new OE rack for the price of a 2nd hand RA rack?

Thanks

Quick rack is good - try a scrapper or read the FS pages. Mine (from STi VI RA) was £100

Standard ones should be cheap from a scrapper

Are they hard to fit?

Having been used to driving RWD cars with no quick rack I find the rack in my type R to be a god send personally. If your're planning on the odd sideways manouver which frequently happens in a type r on a wet road then yes I would reccommend it-easier to catch a slide weather intended or not.

hmm ok.

Thing is i need my rack changed by 7th of june. So hopefully someone will be breaking an RA at some point.

So it is worth it in.

iirc normal is 2.75 ra 2.15 turns? So it really does make all the difference?

Yes the car will be getting sideways a significant amount, and also used on the track.

The dilemma is, do i get brand new OE for 220 or 2nd hand RA for 100/200 ..?

I could just get the new one now, fix it, and continue...

Cant imagine there are many RA's down my local scrppy.. ::(

The type r/ra rack is 2.5 turns the 22b and r/ra limited rack is 2.25 turns.

or you can cut and weld the steering linkage and run a Spec C 2.25 rack on a classic :)

Could do. but i cant weld. And i need this to be as cheap as possible really.

It needs to be fixed by 7th June for bovington. Dont want hariy steering on a tree lined track. That could be disasterous.

So i want a RA Limited, or an R or a new OE remanufactured one.

I had mine done by Mocom the other day. There's a couple of things to be aware of, firstly in that it's not a quick job and secondly the designs between standard and quick can vary a little bit which makes fitting that bit more challenging! I had u/rated bushes fitted at the same time which is a good idea seeing as how its all out.

scoobyc 18 May 2009 02:03 PM

Yeah i got bushes ready to go. Id ideally want one which doesnt need fabrication.

It looks not too hard, id imagine taking the pipes off is gonna be a real git tho.

Anyone done one before..? On a street?

So the quick racks wont be the same fitment then? I assumed it would be same casing etc just different sized cog...

Puff The Magic Wagon! 18 May 2009 07:06 PM

The pipes might end in different places necessitating the need to move them around abit. I don't know exactly as I didn't do it but that was as how explained to me. Obv that is a bugger without pipe-bending kit etc.
