MY00 / FMIC / Induction

Morning all,

I'm looking to install a FMIC soon, but currently have standard airbox and filter. Is it possible to fit the FMIC pipework around the standard airbox? Has anyone done this? - pics would be appreciated

If it doesn't seem feasible and an induction kit has to be fitted, can anyone recommend me a decent induction kit for a MY00 that isn't likely to kill the girly MAF sensor?

Am planning on going MAFless at some point, but until then I need a reliable solution.

Cheers.

i shud think that they build them to suit a subaru impreza standard. ive not tried it but if u buy a fmic u shudnt have to mod everythin else to fit

You will have to run and induction kit with a fmic as the pipe run goes right through where the standard airbox is:thumb:

Cheers fellas. Was fairly sure the airbox had to go, never seen an install with standard airbox / FMIC. Was just wondering if someone had done it.

I'm happy to go with a cone, the fact that grizz has run one for a couple of years makes me feel better. The RCM or K+N types seem favourite, although the RCM kit is a lot more expensive than the K+N! But as with all the RCM stuff - fantastic quality.

Thanks guys.

Would the airbox have tp be binned if a lateral FMIC / Raditor kit was used? I've seen installs where the pipe runs dont go into the airbox area?

I am using a pro alloy FMIC so had to remove the airbox.

You could probably keep the airbox with a Lateral FMIC, I don't think the pipework comes through the wing like most other FMICs. I honestly can't justify the £1200 for one, though it does look like a nicely engineered piece of kit. I'd much rather spend the money on a Hybrid and induction kit.

Going back to induction kits.....all the places that sell K+N's don't recommend fitting them to a 99/00 because of he MAF sensors. I'm sure I've seen other 99/00 owners who have had them fitted without issue. - can anyone confirm?

I notice that Power Engineering do a 'Power Induction kit' that uses a K+N cone with a special adapter that is apparently more suited to the 99/00 MAFs - can anyone vouch for these?

Cheers.

Girly MAF on a MY00

A bit late I know... but...

Power Engineering don't do the specialist 99-00 intake anymore as the supplier has gone bust!!

The only difference with this kit was that it had a curved adapter that 'smoothed out' the air flow, hence making it less turbulent for the MAF to deal with.

We have just fitted a Simota Industion kit to our MY00 Classic track car, this has the same curved adapter and is v. good quality! (off ebay for £45)

The main thing to remember is to secure the induction kit to the inner wing & chassis using rubber gromet mounts, as this minimises damaging vibrations that will help to kill the MAF.

We have secured the MAF using a home made aluminium heat shield that fits around the MAF and secures it against the inner wing... it doesn't move one bit!!

Cheers,
Kim.
