Traffic Cops Beeb1

That is one dead Honda Civic!!!!

davyboy 14 May 2009 09:24 PM

...and one arrested guy because he over took the car?

jonc 14 May 2009 09:33 PM

CTR vs BMW Z4, with speeds in three figures when the accident happened. The CTR rolled several times and over a 9ft fence to land upside down on a house, and the driver managed to crawl out of the wreckage.

davyboy 14 May 2009 09:37 PM

You sould like a copper!

They only evidence they had to arrest the guy was he over took the crashed car.

...in my mind that is not enough evidence...right now he is guilty of having a sports car.

SunnySideUp 14 May 2009 09:42 PM

We all know that they were racing ....... a race that could have killed a family in another car!!!!

Both should be banged up for 15 years each.

davyboy 14 May 2009 09:43 PM

Scoobynet kangaroo court!

jonc 14 May 2009 09:49 PM

According to eye witness the two cars were racing at high speed out of the village. No other proof and the CTR driver is in hospital unable to answer any questions. Yep, they could have killed someone in an on coming car at the speed they were traveling at. The combined speed would have meant utter devastation.

davyboy 14 May 2009 09:56 PM

I do not believe an eye witness can tell the speed of a car.

If I drove my car around in 2nd gear all the time, it way well appear that I am going fast, where as it just sounds like I am going fast.

I'm not saying he isn't guilty, but I don't see they have enough to arrest a guy on the evidence they have.

davyboy 14 May 2009 09:59 PM

.....bugger me.

May as well drink and drive rather than over take anyone!

Did I hear right....a 4 year driving ban!

SunnySideUp 14 May 2009 10:00 PM

Both done for Dangerous Driving .............. GOOD!!! :thumb:

Timwinner 14 May 2009 10:01 PM

Davy do you have any understanding of the law, you are arrested under suspicion, you are then questioned and the decision is made. If no one was arrested under suspicion no one would ever get arrested for anything.
Or would you just like the people that hold there hands up to be nicked, no investigation, no evidence gathering, just nicked and put straight into jail.

davyboy 14 May 2009 10:04 PM

I understand, I'm just saying I thought the evidence they had was poor.

jonc 14 May 2009 10:07 PM

Had they admitted dangerous driving, the sentence would have been lighter. Serves them right!!

EFA.

dpb 14 May 2009 10:17 PM

last years programme !

davyboy 14 May 2009 10:18 PM

Wrong.

When the BMW driver was arrested the only evidence they had was he overtook the Civic driver. To me that was worthy of a chat, but no more.

Before acting clever with TLAs (lol) get your facts straight ;)

dunx 14 May 2009 10:19 PM

That guy giving it all the speel (witness) was my ex-employer....

A well know "hot shoe" in the rallying fraternity, I remember going marshalling with him once, his wife and sister in law got out of his car and promptly threw up, my passengers just climbed out and relaxed....

LOL

dunx

P.S. If I have a spirited run home from a club meeting with another club member, surely it's make reasonable progress, not racing.....

davyboy 14 May 2009 10:21 PM

How come the guy in the Seat got away scott free?

He must have been breaking the law too? He travelled 99 feet without touching the floor!

A chat...?

A bloke is lying seriously hurt in hospital following a high speed crash in which other innocent people could have been hurt/killed in.............and you want us to have a chat.

What subject do you want..... football, the weather.

There is reasonable suspicion that he was involved in an incident of dangerous driving and so he needs to be interviewed under caution to get his account. If he is under arrest, then considerations can be given as to his bail.

SunnySideUp 14 May 2009 10:30 PM

I don't care if they killed each other ........ imagine, for one moment, a young family coming in the opposite direction?

Let's say a Father, Mother and 3 Children returning home from a picnic and day out.

These two tw4ts wipe them out .... because they wanted a spirited drive!!!!????

Selfish attitude and 15 years each in prison would have been reasonable.

As you should know, SN is a funny old place. The amount of times stories are posted up, without the whole facts, and people call for all sorts of punishments, cries of the police doing too little etc. but then you have a story, where it seemed quite clear these two were behaving recklessly on the road, and people want nothing done, and shouts about too little evidence/the way it was handled.

No doubt the programme didn't show everything, but tbh, more often than not in these, you find people have got off lightly if punished at all, so I'd assume they must have had enough to get a conviction from.

When the BMW driver was in the police station he was only arrested under suspicion, and brought in for questioning, due to the evidence so far. When in the police station (while being bailed), they said something along the lines of he could be recalled if any further evidence came to light. To my mind that's fair do's. If no further evidence had come to light of what had gone on, and there was no evidence to proceed with, I'd have thought that would be the end of it, but as more information came to the surface they had enough to have them for it.

Very convenient that the honda driver could remember so much after the accident, and even from earlier, but not from right before, and the bmw driver remembered nothing significant about the journey, but made an anonymous call for paramedics. Maybe if they hadn't (probably told so many lies), they may have been treated differently. After all, if you have done no wrong why lie or cover things up?

Jap Import 15 May 2009 10:30 AM

This makes me laugh when threads are started during the television broadcast.
Why not wait until the end of the show when everyone knows the facts, it saves all the bitchy remarks as everyone's then clear of what's actually happened.

austinwrx 15 May 2009 11:36 AM

anyone else sniggering lots like a child because he was called

Mr Duck

and dressed like a gayer ????? :D

two nobs in cars they think are fast, clearly racing. end of really.

the trick with driving fast cars is to have the maturity to back off and slow down and not be bothered because someone went faster.

just some people's egos' can't cope with that clearly.

r32 15 May 2009 12:00 PM

Sadly the programme was a repeat, not too much new on the Beeb these days.
But although the accident looked horrific I felt that there was little evidence to prosecute both drivers. They both got severe sentances, was this fair? Probably.

You don't think a Honda Civic parked on someone's roof is evidence of someone going a little bit on the fast side?

The BMW driver got caught out because he was proven to have lied to the police. He claimed nothing significant happened on the journey and then was shown to have called the ambulance, anonymously, for the Civic driver. It's possible that he then coughed to it when re-questioned.

jonc 15 May 2009 12:27 PM

Still, I was supprised with the punishment of a 4 year ban and 200 hours community service. Of course had there been fatalities that would be different. I know someone who had a big "off" in their youth. The police used their discression and chose not to press charges of dangerous driving (plus there were no witnesses!), they could clearly see a harsh lesson had been learnt. Hence why that youth in the Seat Ibiza didn't get charged.

No.

i have seen a fiesta on its roof doing no more than 20 when it happened, all it takes is an impact in the right place!
