oil pressure help???

i have always kept an eye on my gauges cos i like to know my car is running right.

i have the full defi set up so i know im running good gauges, but tonight i noticed my oil pressure gauge has gone up. it used to idle around 20-30 psi and i think around 40-60 psi when driving sometimes higher if i booted it.

but tonight it is idling at 40+ psi and goes to 70psi when driving and climbs more towards 80psi when going a little faster. i dont want to go to fast because i dont want to cause too much pressure, but im sure this is not right

can any one help or have any suggestions. am i just being paranoid??

Have you recently changed the oil to a different grade?

mr_D 08 May 2009 12:41 AM

no i havent changed it yet. aparently it was done in oct and has done less than 2000 miles since then

u could have somethin blocking your oil pressure pump which sends the info to the gauge. i cant c it being this. i have same gauge and pumps the same as wot yours does normally but mine hasnt done wot yours done yet but to be honest if there was a problem your oil light wud of came on

my mate recons the psi is right but im sure it used to be lower than this. i could swear that it was. but i will keep an eye on it. maybe take the switch out and clean it. will be doing an oil change soon aswell so fingers crossed nothing is wrong

I have a set of racetech gauges but the oil pressure normally sits around 40 at idle and between 70-75 at high revs.

I am running millers 10w60 oil at the moment. But when i was using 10w40 i was seeing pressures of 25-30 at idle and 60-70 at high revs.

So oil type makes a resonable difference. Hope this helps.

I have AutoGauges and those figures seem to match mine..........

It is worrying though the gauge only goes up to 100 psi,and in the morning when its cold the pressuse is off the scale till it gets warm,it does a 270% sweep when you turn the key then stays at 100 psi:freak3: no matter how you drive till its warmed up! Not that I rag it when its cold;)

Driving on the motorway sees the gauge at 80-85 and when you change down the gears coming off the slip road everytime you push the clutch in the gauge goes down to 50 psi and back up to 80-85 when released, and Idels at 35-40

Im same as bigdaveallen running Millers 10-60

My car sits about 90-95 when cold. Then drops when warm.

When cold i found that there wasn't much difference between the 10w40 and 10w60, both sit around 90-95. The only difference was when warm.
