3 Plug ECU on a MY98?
I have a MY98 UK 2000 and I was looking through the paperwork and found a RR session with 271bhp (was totally standard) on a new engine. There was a couple of receipts for it being mapped too.
Well, I was speaking to someone on here the other day who said check your ecu it might be an Apexi or Simtec, so I did. It's a 3 plug 8S? I thought all facelifted cars were 4 plug? I did notice there is a spare plug taped back in to the loom near the ECU. Have I got this all wrong? :thumb: |
All early (pre-facelift) cars are 4 pin.
8S is a standard 97-98 ecu |
Err no they're not, they are 3 plug early ones.
Mine has 4 plugs but the ECU has 3... |
92-96 cars pre facelift are 4 plug the crossover year 1997 ish (when various facelifts interior and exterior is when they seemed to change to 3 pin).
Which early ecus are 3 plug then (serious question) |

I have a MY98 classic and I spoke to JGM about a new ECU, he said I need a 3-pin Apexi power fc and commander!
271 bhp seems on the high side for standard, mine was Rolling roaded couple of months ago at 249 bhp, thats with full de-cat and pannel filter:wonder: |

Which early ecus are 3 plug then (serious question) I remember my last UK turbo had a 3 pin plug (pre facelift) and someone I talked to the other day (who also knew more than me) talked about it. Anyway, still doesn't explain the plug taped away though... :thumb: |
Tell a lie, it had a ScoobySport backbox and a RamAir filter on the SMR engine...

93~96 Impreza and early legacy are 4 plug ecu's with yellow plugs and yellow socket.
97~98 Impreza are 3 plug and yellow. 99~00 3plug grey, black and blue.. socket has a blank 4th slot but no pins etc in it or plug for that.. just a blank. It sounds like it may have had an ecu in it in the past which has been removed.. or there was mappable daughter boards available a long while ago that to my knowledge only power engineering and Pat the Map used to use. From whom is the mapping reciepts? Simon |
Power Engineering

sounds like it most likely has one of the mappable daughter boards they used to use in it then :)
|
So... What ever it had, it doesn't now...? :(
|
So it's still there? :)
|
no probably still in the ecu.. it will be a daughterboard within the case.

Simon I have added a TD05 full HKS 3" decat straight through and a 3 port... Hits fuel cut though I think... How many pony's should I be seeing? (approx) |
I am only aware of Pat mapping these, there is no licence that is EcuTek.
you have fitted a fair number of mods.. stay off boost else you'll be rebuilding it soon. Your next lmit is going to be injectors. TD05 assumnig it is 16g and front entry can push you too 330~340bhp with supporting mods. Simon |

Thanks Simon :D
So 440's would be the next step up then? |
