Does it exist?
Second hand car - around 6ish sec 0-60, 50k miles or less, Year 2000 or newer, good to drive, 30+ mpg, and 5k or less?
 |
Your mileage requirement is a killer, 50k on a car up to 9 years old?
Double it and you'll get some nice things like S3, Cooper S, 9-3 hot, Fiat Coupe ( :D ) |
Bug JDM WRX. Best tread lightly though for 30mpg!
|
An EP3 Civic Type R would fit the bill perfectly IMO.
Cheers, Grant |
Your going to srtuggle with that:
Celica 190? Ok 1 second off the 0-60 (7.2 sec ) and is a bit tinny: I know of one thats done just 27K thats up for £5500 (Sorry, I must resist turning this into a classified advert  ) Or Civic Type R and Integra. Other than that I'm thinking you may squeeze a Seat Leon Cupra R, or a BMW 328 but even they are circa 7secs 0-60 Otherwise its back to those thirsty Imprezas :) |
Does it help to say around 50k miles instead of under?! :D
|
330i/ci would be on my list.
|
Shame is I had a BMW before Z4 3.0i, not a good experience, pushed me away from BMW and it would only get 30mpg on a long run, rest of the time was mid twenties....
|
There's been SupraJawa, ScoobyJawa and SkyJawa... its time to unveil, CivicJawa. :lol1:
Cheers, Grant |
I don't reckon you'll get any of those suggestions with much less than 70k for 5 grand, never mind around 50!!
You either need older, higher miles or drop the 0-60. If you go 100k miles, 98 or newer or 0-60 in sub 8, you'll open up some interesting avenues. |
The MPG requirement hurts a little. An ST220 fits all the criteria but I think you'd have to try to get 30mpg regularly.
|
what about a renault clio 172 cup sport?

Cheers, Grant You're forgetting RenJawa, PugJawa, SXJawa, Z4Jawa, FocusJawa and a few others lol :p But CivicJawa over my dead body ;) :lol1: |
0-60 is more kinda 6-7, its just a ballpark really for something with a bit of shove on the move! Current ST is prob only around 6-6.5 but once moving its a beast!!!
ST220 does fit most of bill, but slow after the ST, mate has one and gets same mpg as my Focus  |
Dude, I think you are really going to struggle if you are turning your nose up at 0-100 in 18-seconds as being 'too slow' but still desire 30mpg, MY2000 or younger and around 50k for miles for 5k. In fact, scoobies - ironically - probably best fit the bill. Something like a 2001 classic with a few 'weekend only' owners would fit the bill and you can defo get 30mpg out of a scooby if you don't go daft. However, I'd suggest that if you in anyway enjoy driving then pretty much any turbo car will leave you missing that mpg target by a mile. Things like civic type-r's and accord type-r's, most V6 saloons and hot-hatches in this range are 0-100 in 18-20 seconds so if that's not fast enough you'll struggle.
Something like a remapped Leon Cupra would be faster and under £5k, etc but I seriously doubt you'll get 30mpg from such a car in normal driving. The temptation to boost up is just too great. |
Gotta be an EP3 type r but I think it's gonna be higher than 50k mileage. Pity you needed 30mpg as a rx8 would have fit the bill
|
BTW my mate has just bought a Alpha 147 GT 3.2 with 52k on a 2004 plate for £7500 so I dunno if you can get an older one for around 5k. It'll probably break down once a week but it does pull like a train.

 If it's got less than 50k on it, it will most likely be 5 years old or less, so dismiss the age. If it does 0-60 in 6 seconds the chances are it will be good to drive, so that can be taken out of the equation. So it boils down to: 1. 0-60 in around 6 seconds. 2. £5k 3. 30mpg 4. Max 50k To achieve the 0-60 and the 30mpg it will need to be relatively lightweight and petrol powered. If it was turbocharged it could be chipped to deliver the performance/mpg. And to be £5k with 50k or less it will need to have been less than 25k new and be relatively undesirable. Had a quick look on Auto Trader: Renault Megane 225 Saab 9-3 Turbo Astra turbo Seat Leon 20v T It can be done! |
Chipped Fabia VRS?
Dunno how much they cost at the mo, but will do well over your MPG, should do about 6 secs to 60 with a chip. |
Before I got my WRX I had an S60 T5. That could just qualify for you.
It was a class bit of kit in a straight line!:thumb: |
SAAB 95 2.3 Turbo (aero) sub £6k for 2004 and 2005 and on a run can do 30mpg

I think this is a great challenge so let's break the problem into manageable pieces:

There's only one megane on AT and it's private sale and 2.5k less than anything else so either dodgy or a dog. For a 9-3 in sub 7 sec, you need an aero hot, so not 5k unless high miles Astra turbo is best suggestion yet, a few under 50k Leons are all high miles and they don't age well so will be shabby on the inside. I looked at a few when I bought my A3 and they were all terribly tatty. So I think it will be very difficult but if you get lucky, could be done but you'll have to give on something. |
My car would comply with all but the mpg....... no chance!!
|
My Saab 9-3 aero is mapped to 247 bhp has done 51k and is worth about five, perhaps a bit more but I have never timed it to sixty, standard it is seven is, it is rapid once on boost, through the gears but have to say though effective it doesn't exude character or make much in the way of intersting noises
|
As mentioned, must be unfashionable or unfriendly:
