3 port boost solenoids
Guys,
I've had an Ecutek remap on my car - MY05 UK STI. I've read about people havng these fitted, I wasn't told I needed one. Question is, do I need one and would I benefit from having one fitted and then the map tweeked accordingly? Secondly - the car runs approx 335/330 at present. I was told that if I decatted fully it would probably make another 20ish bph It currently has the PPP exhaust system fitted, is it really worth decatting for the sake of another 20bhp? Thanks, Shaun |
short answer... YES
decats are the way 4ward, easy and relatively cheap power mod (20bhp increase is about correct). take those 3 cats off straight away and increase that burble! i dont know anything about 3 port boost solenoids... its sumin i'd like to know about tho also. |
3 cats?
Only one as far as I was aware - a high flow sports CAT at that too. |
If you already have a high flow sport cat, then I wouldnt bother decatting. (dependant also upon whether it a fleebay special sports cat or a good one).
Also make sure what is the exact setup of your current exhaust system. UK std exhaust usually have 2 cats IIRC. Has the other cat been taken out?? Is it a 3" system or 2.5 inch? Ideally better to remap with 3 port boost solenoid on before, but now that its already mapped I would leave it until you may have done a few more mods in the future & then may require a map tweak. But if the garage you got it mapped from are willing to tweak map for small cost then might be worth a go. |
Its a PPP STI - so I'd like to think its a good sports cat.
Its been remapped by Andy Forrest - about 1.5 years ago. So, I don't think I will bother decatting. Probably just leave it with the existing solenoid then. Thanks, Shaun |
you've got the prodrive sports cat which is about as good as they get, if its the STi PPP I think I'm right in saying thats the only cat you've got left which is fine so I wouldn't bother getting rid of it. the power gain from removing the sports cat is minimal and you'll have to put a cat in to pass the MOT
