Nitrous and big bhp ???
Who is running nitrous with 500bhp plus?? What sort of shot are you using and is it worth it ??? I'm just curious what sort of fun this gets at nearer the 600bhp mark?? Is it very disaterous to the engine at this limit as I know andy is forever blowing gaskets :)

Steve, I have driven SleeperSy's monster several times down the strip at Santa Pod. I went with Sy last Saturday to DS Automotives and he had 3 dyno runs. 1st broke from the rollers ! and 3rd run developed 638 lb/ft unassisted. NOS & ALS is used on most runs and the difference between NOS and no NOS isn't felt much. There is no additional feel of boost with NOS but more torque. Sy ran a 10.6 a few weeks ago. Awesome machine to drive ! |
With the chocolate engines we all run is NOS o.k for the scoob ?
if they can develope knock/bigend faults from normal running, slapping NOS on without any map etc would surely cause more issues, but how do u map for NOS ? im running a standard import bar exhaust mods so would like to fit it,but the above puts me off,for £600 its not a bad upgrade,as long as your on good terms with the refill guy for the bottles !!!!!! |
Clive,
Sy's is the right power level for me to be thinking of and I knew he was running it ! But is the Nitrours killing his car or is it jst the power??? The Rig, Chocolate engines normally refer to non modifeid engines and more power??? I have uprated my dump valve so I think I'm ok :) |

Not sure what you are asking mate ? He has not had any major issues with the engine and races regular. Sy is running mid 600's & with NOS I guess he is up over 700bhp. The level of grip on launch is amazing. Can launch at 5000 with no traction loss at all, yet Sy ran this weekend using LC and it did not appear that much better? |
This is the graph for the gobstopper with and without nitrous, hell of a difference to the spool and curve!

Speak to Chy at Pennine Subarus (even Mark at Lateral) re blowing of gaskets and his "O" ring set up. This is his secret weapon to strengthen this area. I understand a 50 shot is equivalent of a 100lbs of torque! :D |
Just spoke to Chy and he confirmed what I thought it may do and that is possibly blow the head gaskets.

In my Imp days (1980's) I used wills rings, argon filled mild steel that sat in a groove machined in the cylinder head.... I guess they are still out there in some form.
Trevor Langfield is the man to ask at "The Wizard of NOS", if your ecu can support dual maps then off you go. HTH dunx P.S. I have given the torque boosting effects some thought :norty: |
Dunx the new stuff is sliver plated inconel rings, I would say the best way to use NOS would be to use a progressive system allowing to you spool a larger turbo, that would be otherwise too laggy on a given engine size.
This setup would be a little more HG friendly and you would only probably need a 50 shot to see some decent gains. Would look at some fail safe mechanism too, Banny |
Yup, Banny Trev does progressive controllers etc.
I was wondering if I could keep my 321H and add NO2 to a forged 2.1, just for fun.... Next year, sadly. dunx |

Chy is using them on my build. :thumb: |
So what would be the recommended dosages then? how much would a built CDB be able to take on a safe lavel?
|
My 2.5cdb is also having them and should be done in a week or so, have also purchased a wizards of nos kit for it. So will be interesting to see what the results are, this is on a GT35/42R

Banny Sounds like you're going to have loads of fun Banny! I was lucky Chy allowed me to hold one of the rings! Is your NOS going to be set up on a gradual basis rather than a single blast upfront? Are you going to be running the Solaris? |

Also the fact you will be on a triple plate clutch otherwise break break! :D |
It is a classic running VVT heads and will indeed be on a solaris, will be using it progressively as that is what Pat has recommended. He will be mapping the car so dont really want to argue with him lol

There is a good chance those rings are in my engine as it was only just returned from chy 2 months ago
