I put in one of my "dead" cars, and it comes back with all the details that are available.

So no, it may be long gone, just not removed from the records.

Vehicle status : licence not due
Date of Liability : 01 04 2010

This means it is currently taxed untill end of march 2010, so its almost certainly still on the road somewhere.

If under vehicle status it says Sorn not due, it is declared sorn till the liability date, or if it says Unlicenced, it has neither tax nor sorn - this is usually applicable to vehicles that went off the roads before sorn was introduced.

What is the link for checking the above?

hodgy0_2 18 April 2009 05:40 PM

yes -- correct it is still taxed

the link is

http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/Evl...ehicle+Enquiry

you can write to the DVLA requesting information about a vehicle, and if you give a good reason - i.e. you used to own it. they will tell you the history -- all previous owners etc, cost about £10

details are in the booklet you get when you tax your car
