STi or WRX TMIC ?
Realistically on vPower - around 330-340bhp on a WRX TMIC, 350-360 on a STi, providing the VF22 stays in 1 piece long enough... Andrew... |
Why?
I just did the total opposite, replaced my Link ECU on my MY99 V5 STi type R with a standard item and now waiting to have it mapped with ecutek software :D Tony:) |
It's MAFless for a start and if you already have one a hell of a lot cheaper to remap.
It may be a simple ECU but it's perfectly capable when properly setup. Andrew... |
Well if you can get Bob Rawle to remap it then go for it ;) not much in the way of demand, good for very old cars but considering they still run lumpy on these and its not exactly the best ecu (though if you want water injection go for it ;)) i shall stick with a standard ecu with a remap (and maf's are pretty damn cheap anyway :D)
Tony:) |
still dosent answer my question on who can map this for full potential ?????
|
Bob Rawle :)
Tony:) |
|
weres bob rawle based at and anybody got a post code for multi map thanks lads, also what other mods will i need before remap as i dont wanna pay for tweeks after every part regards lee, looking for about 350 > 400 bhp

Your not get that sort of power with a VF22 so a turbo change for starters fella.
|
states on motorsport website vf22 is good for 400 > 450 bhp ??? look ,,
The VF series (VF22, VF23, VF24, VF29, VF30, VF34, VF39) are the most common direct replacement turbos. All VF-series turbochargers use the same roller bearing, water-cooled core assembly. The differences are in their wheels and housings to achieve different flows. The VF22 has the largest potential for peak horsepower. In other words, in the IHI model range, the VF 22 supports the highest boost levels. It is capable of running up to 25 psi. Because it is a roller bearing turbo, turbo lag is minimal...the boost comes on around 3300 rpm. Expect to max out the VF22 somewhere in the 400-450 hp range. The VF23 starts the middle ground. It comes on boost around 3100 rpm and is capable of running 20 psi of boost. Expect to max out the VF23 somewhere in the 300-350 hp range. The VF 24 starts to come on around 2900 rpm and will significantly improve power through the midrange over the stock TD04 turbo. However, the VF 24 is only capable of running around 17 psi. The VF23 and VF 24 are a great replacement for those who value drivability higher than maximum power. The VF29 & VF30 delivers a very wide increase in torque over the standard TD-series turbos. The VF 30 is a fairly new IHI model that utilizes the exhaust housing of a VF24 and the compressor housing sized between a VF 23 and a VF 22. It comes on boost down low (around the 3000 rpm range). With upgraded injectors, fuel pump, and engine management, the VF 30 is good for 365-390 horsepower. It is important to note that the VF30 is NOT a roller bearing turbo. The IHI VF34 (which comes standard in the Japanese market STi version "RA") is a new roller bearing turbo. It has the same specifications (compressor size, etc.) as the VF 30. The difference lies in the roller bearing which, theoretically, allows quicker spool and better response. It costs a couple hundres more than a VF 30. The VF 34 maxes out around 365-390 hp. It is probably the most popular option for big turbos on the WRX. One other turbo to note is the VF 39...it comes standard in the USDM STi. While we don't have all the specs yet, these are a new roller bearing, TWIN SCROLL design. Performance numbers are pretty similar to the VF34...maxing out just under 400 hp. |

Dont believe everything you read fella, i think the power quoted there is "American" horsepower, they like to exaggerate everything :lol1:
The thing with the VF22 is its now an old turbo and things have moved on, ive heard that they like to self destruct if run at high boost. *edit* just looked at that link and they state that the VF30 and Vf34 are rated at 365-390hp...:lol1: |
so what do you advise a vf39 ?? off a newage sti
|
There are enough hybrid VF22's out there (MD series) that dont break which will fit :)
Though in all seriousness, the Link isnt exactly the best ecu out there, its mid 90's tech, I dont think anyone has mapped one for quite a few years, and Bob is about the only person I know (maybe Pat Holborn?) and both are a few hundred miles south of where you are :( Tony:) PS, should say that my car has similar mods to yours (though im not sure if the engine has been built or not, still after the 2nd owner for that) but I run a Hybrid VF22 turbo, bigger injectors, FMIC, headers, uprated fuel pump etc etc. |
Whatever turbo you choose you are limited to what the WRX 5-speed box can take.
I smashed two newage 5 speeders in as many months with a TD05 18G :( I now run a newage 6-speed which can take a lot more abuse LOL VF35 / 34 would suit you for a good road car 325-350 BHP without trashing the box and clutch IMHO :D Shaun Shaun |
how do you tell the vf22 hybrids apart ????

They are old but work preferly well, the 99 was a 10row and worked much better than the older 6row. Simon |

Might be worth having a word with Harvey on here. He's based in Darlington - he regularly gets Bob Rawle up to his place to do a weekend of mapping. Think the next one is in June or something??? You'll find more info in the events section on tyneteesscoobies.co.uk mate.
