would an old USB card with an XP driver work on vista?
i've probably answered my own question in the title, i've got an old usb 2.0 card but the latest driver i can find is for XP.
would vista find it and run it ok or is it too old? just wondered if i could us it before i went out and got a usb hub:) Ta:) |
if Vista has a built in driver, yeah. It most likely won't use the xp driver

just don't want to bugger things up (i've only just got it back form being fixed lol!) or would it be that the computer simply won't recognse it? |
ye, just bung it in. if it works, great. If not remove it.
I doubt you'll bugger anything up just by installing it. (take a backup first) :) |
Just shove it in, it should be fine.... Vista is generally ok for drivers built in.
I not you can actually go in to device manager and see if Vista will accept the XP driver, I had to do that on one of my laptops because the sound card just wouldn't work. |
cheers guys i'll give it a go.
lol at shoving it in, i don't think either of you know my limited computer skills. i'm approaching it like it's brain surgery:lol1: this may be the last time i manage posting with this computer;) |
wouldn't have it:( the wizard thingy looked for drivers and couldn't find a vista one and no joy with the XP driver.
oh well, you learn by doing i guess. at least i know what to do now, ordered a usb card so should be up and running soon:) cheers again for the tips guys:thumb: |
