Kilbeggan blade is my tip! I never win so avoid at all costs!

Scoobychick 04 April 2009 04:13 PM

I discovered that I had £11 in my Ladbrokes account online so I bet it all on two nags and one old donkey :thumb:

I had a fiver @ 9/1 on Butler's Cabin because I know some people called Butler who have a boat and cabin is a boaty term :lol1:

I had a fiver @ 12/1 on Comply or Die because it fits in with what I do at work :king:

Then with my last Quid I chucked it on Cerium because the odds were 500/1 :lol1:

I'm expecting to win nothing :thumb:

If you look carefully behind the racecourse at Canal Turn as they go past and on a bit you can see loads of people standing on the roofs of their narrowboats moored up on the Leeds & Liverpool canal for a free view :king:

jods 04 April 2009 04:19 PM

FFS - 2 false starts - I have £10 to win on Silver Birch (and a few others) Silver Birch is screwed as it's already run half the friggin' race :(

Kieran_Burns 04 April 2009 04:19 PM

Anyone else here think ScoobyChick should be renamed to CanalChick? ;)

Scoobychick 04 April 2009 04:20 PM

Horses are rubbish, at least with motor racing the cars don't start until the driver makes it :D

More like "Boats on fire"

Les :)

SunnySideUp 04 April 2009 06:13 PM

I had some dosh on Irish Invader .... :(

And a punt on Hear the Echo .... which was 3rd for most of the race, first at one point, and then collapsed on the home straight - I think it was shot :(

scunnered 04 April 2009 06:14 PM

I wonder what the death toll is this year.
Has there ever been a Grand national where there were no horse deaths, either during the race, or by having to get put down afterwards.?
I know many horses die at race meetings every year, but the Grand National is probably the most gruelling race in the world, and even a fit healthy horse is struggling to finish.
We can't begin to imagine the stress and suffering those horses have to endure.

SunnySideUp 04 April 2009 06:25 PM

300 Horses die in Horse Races in the UK each year ... that's quite a toll ...

Yep you won on the first horse to get to heaven!

Sal.....shame you didn't do an each way be on that 500/1!! You'd have got £125 with most bookies paying out 1/4 the odd on the top 5.

Perhaps they should introduce a rule whereby if a horse has to be put down after the race, so does the owner and jockey - might make them think twice.

I have nothing against horse racing or eventing etc... per se, but when they start getting these huge jumps like at the GN and so many fallers, I think its time they had a good look at it.

All Torque 05 April 2009 10:48 AM

Did you hear what Claire Balding said to the winning jockey "with this win you can get your teeth done " after asking him to smile for the cameras, I would have punched her in the fcuking teeth if it were me she said it too.

Butlers Cabin collapsed after the race but pulled through sadly Hear the Echo was not so lucky, pulled up on the run in only to die from exhaustion
