I got a plate made up today.

The car does run sooooo much smoother now! I've never ran a recirc as the car came with a BOV. The little squirrel isn't too loud to be honest. Thats with a K&N Typhoon, standard turbo intake, and a VF35.

bmw 335D?

A tractor would beat one of those pup motors!

Don't be so sure. My mate has one and standard it walked all up and down a 390bhp STi. In the twisties AWD and a full AST set-up saw the Scoob regain the advantage though. The same 335D has recently been map'd to iro 335/500 (from 280/430) so the in gear performance should be even better. Standard they are quicker 30-70 than the 5.0 litre V10 M5 (3.3s vs 3.7s), Prodrive quote 4.7s for the 06/07 STi PPP.

No, effectively everything is still connected as it was (with boost gauge tee'd off as per usual), I've just slipped a tin plate between the DV and IC.

The ecu's not cutting boost, so I think it's a bit unlikely it's actually making 1.7bar.. Only did a short evaluation drive today, I'll give it a better test tomorrow. Will let you know if the engine grenades itself..:lol1:

i am surprised no mention of poss maf damaged i removed my d/v but it killed my maf after 2 weeks so now use a nissan ome recurc d/v very good at holding boost and a nice fit between fmic & recurc pipe

lol another guy who thinks the impreza rules all

jasonius 04 April 2009 09:22 PM

^^^

Lol, they'll find out one day, just a question of whether they'll accept it and hold their hands up..! :D

banny sti 04 April 2009 09:26 PM

I will never hold my hands up :D ;)

Can I ask....

What does a recirc valve sound like?

The BOV gives a Woooooosh, the blanked gives a Squirrel noise, what does the recirc give?

corradoboy 04 April 2009 09:55 PM

Very similar, just much quieter. Removing the intake silencer (snorkel) and using a free flowing panel filter makes them audible like VTA's, but at about a quarter of the volume.

chrisdicko 04 April 2009 10:06 PM

I've got a cold air intake on :)

banny sti 04 April 2009 10:08 PM

Then it will sound pretty much like a VTA dv then :)

chrisdicko 04 April 2009 10:24 PM

Cool, thanks :)

Can't fit the recirc yet, as the previous owner cut down the pipe going to the turbo intake, so it doesnt reach...... So just waiting until I get the new turbo, fmic etc on.

chrisdicko 04 April 2009 10:30 PM

Oh, also......another dumb question.

When I fitted the blanking plate, the pops and bangs stopped...which is probably obvious.

But, when I was stationary and revving the tits off it to see what it was like, there was a few huge bangs (only when stationary), it sounded like anti lag. It only did it when stationary though, and hasn't popped once while driving. Any reason for this?

Think i`ll stick to my HKS dump valve, not sure the TD05 will cope !

mervil 04 April 2009 11:47 PM

I've had my 20g blanked off for 6months or so now, not had any problems :thumb: Remapped by JGM running 380/365 and loving it :D

No. The Mitsi TD's are the best turbos to go DVless on. Tougher than the IHI VF's... :)

The Rig 05 April 2009 12:11 AM

hmm, might try it then i guess.

cheers

I don't think I would be too bothered about your mates car, twisties or not :)

corradoboy 05 April 2009 01:11 AM

Obviously your car is well up on power, but the vast majority of Scoobs running less than 400 lb/ft might be humbled by such a machine. Over distance it would definitely beat you though, as you'd need 3 fuel stops to his one :lol1:

stevebt 05 April 2009 01:24 AM

I would say 5 stops as mine is realy bad on fuel :D

corradoboy 05 April 2009 01:32 AM

I presumed as much :lol1:

I recall someone on here saying that on their way to The 'Ring they kept overtaking the same diesel Land Rover all the way, even though they were averaging 100+, as every time they pulled in for fuel he just trundled past them :D

That's what I thought too...

Not wise to go DVless on early VF's; okay for the later ones; totally fine to do it on the TD's. This is what I understand the general consensus to be. :wonder:

chrisdicko 05 April 2009 01:12 PM

What are the early VF's?

banny sti 05 April 2009 01:17 PM

VF22 through to VF29, basically any VF that came on a classic impreza

Puff The Magic Wagon! 05 April 2009 01:20 PM

My "blanking off" plate is a small length of "emergency hose" from Halfords and sink/washing machine waste pipe blank on the intake and a length of Samco and another on the i/cooler pipe :D

I did think of brass blanks but thought "weight saving" ;)
