IP Based Security Cameras - help?
 

Hi,

I've been given the task of sourcing 1 or 2 IP based cameras to cover the area outside my work.

IR would be ideal.

Contemplating POE - but wireless id do-able.

I'd like a solution where I can record the footage on my PC.

try search for averdigi can connect some of there units to router plus price up static ip address these usualy cost more but will allow you to connect out to your laptop and also have a dvr

If you're going outside, then an IP rated camera is best for UK conditions.

Vivotek do one of the cheapest IP66 rated cameras - the IP7142 which got a decent review with PC Pro. I've installed a few of these now and the image quality reflects it's price. It does run off POE though.

ACTI offer the ACM-1431/1432. The 1431 is the POE model. Image quality is much better than the IP7142 IMHO (thanks to it's better CCD which supports a higher resolution). It's also a little bit easier to install as it has a RJ45 socket on the back, whereas the IP7142 provides a fly-lead so you need a coupler (supplied in the box) to connect it to your fly-lead from the network socket.

Axis are well known in the market but you often need to budget extra for the outdoor housings to protect the camera. Picture quality is good and they are dead easy to setup. The 209MFD-R is surprisingly small. I have put a 225FD outside but it's a dome rather than a bullet type camera.

If you have the budget, then Mobotix offers superb picture quality and piles of features. Their new 360 degree camera (the Q22) is fab.

If you want software to view/record/playback, the I've done a few installs with ViewCommander. Support from the developers in the US is very good. It doesn't suppor the ACTI cameras at the moment but ACTI offer a free NVR package which is not bad though.

Given it's low cost, going to give the Y-CAM a try.

Failing that will move onto the more expensive options.

There's some nifty software called blue iris which will record the data.
