I went about 4 years ago and wasn't that keen on it. The shops were very expensive and the clubs/pubs were full. Drinks very expensive. In the daytime i thought that the place was a bit smelly. All the boats looked pretty much the same and the sand was too hot :D

Very over rated but that is just my opinion
I prefer Majorca :thumb:

Snazy 30 March 2009 04:31 PM

its the Mayfair of Spain really, so as above.. Not particularly cheap. Didnt visit any beaches, but the Port is spectacular.

When i was there the clubs were pleasent, not over crowded etc.

When you say the port is spectacular, are you talking about the yachts?

I looked at about 10 and was bored to tears, they are all white and expensive but they all looked the same. I suppose i am not a boaty person :o

Lots of girls flashing the flesh in designer gear and twice as many 'past it' old gits :D

The back of the shops along the front of the port were disgusting (don't ask what i was doing there) :nono:

Chip 30 March 2009 04:41 PM

I know the area well. Whereabouts are you staying?

Chip

scoobybubbles 30 March 2009 04:53 PM

Staying in Jardines del Puerto for the 1st week , then bit further in land at The Grangefield Oasis Club for 2nd week. all and all im just looking forward to going away! my biggest worry is entertaining 4 kids ranging from 3 to 18 for 2 weeks! :wonder:

DCI Gene Hunt 30 March 2009 04:55 PM

if you stay around the pool be prepared to see lots of thong action and on the beach is even worse, take a big towel and dont wear flip flops :d

If you are going in the easter holidays then there will be more mumsy types around the pool.

It should be getting hot soon so the weather is a plus.

WATCH OUT FOR THE PETER STRINGFELLOW TYPE MEN IN THONG SPEEDOS

The sand is imported in as far as i know and its very course and orange and too hot to walk on in the middle of summer.

I wouldn't take kids :p

scoobybubbles 30 March 2009 06:28 PM

take a big towel and dont wear flip flops :d))

why do you say dont wear flip flops! ive bought like 4 pairs of the things! 2 pairs for day 2 pairs for night! :lol1:

its is in the easter hols, so i guess i will be one of those mumsy types!:wonder:

PETER STRING FELLOW's in thongs!! NICE!

sand from another country! what the hell!!! :cuckoo:

Flip flops look so out of place in Marbella :nono: :D

Its the Costa Del sol so be prepared for anything :thumb:

I have just booked a villa for 2 weeks later on in the year. Totally secluded with sea views. I can wear nothing all day long and no one will see me :o

yoza 30 March 2009 06:48 PM

Many of my ex work colleagues re located to the Costas, Porto Banus being the place where some of them graduated too, if they survived.

A Liverpool lad Marvin Herbert was blasted 5 times a couple of years back, he survived even though one bullet hit him in the eye, gang violence is common place.

Rival gangs are struggling to keep their business and shooting are the norm.

Number 2 in the drug dealers top 5 re-locations.

Sorry to tell it how it is.

A simple Google on Costa shootings will back up my text, Porto Banus will get plenty of mentions.

sarasquares 30 March 2009 06:52 PM

Quite honestly, i think the place is a sh1t hole :p

I watched a gang war thing on tv not too long ago and it was all about the Eastern Europeans taking over the drug wars and with serious violence and lawlessness :(

yoza 30 March 2009 07:00 PM

Dont go to the Navy Bar/NightClub ever.

Its behind the Old Joes Bar(maybe Joys Bar), rough as feck.

Allan 30 March 2009 07:47 PM

Not a place I'd rush back to, you do see lots of nice cars though.

My parents have a place 10 mins away so we pay the port a visit every year. Basically it's expensive cars, boats, drinks, food, shops etc etc. Oh and there are plenty of 50+ year old blokes driving Ferrari's wishing they were 30 years younger :D
We only spend a few hours there to walk round, have quick look in the shops, quick drink and then back to Marbella.
There is a market on Saturday mornings just down the road where you will find an American style diner that do a mean breakfast :).
I am over there 8 weeks on Thursday for 1st holiday of the year , can't wait!!
Nik.

I have a villa 5 mins from Puerto Banus just before you go into San Pedro on the left hand side. I love the place & on Tuesday i'll be going back over for a week, although the weather is just touching the 20's at the moment & there has been a bit of rain there this week.
The beaches are fantastic but there can be loads of looky looky guys floating about.
Enjoy ... its a cracking place :thumb:

Nurse Gladys 31 March 2009 08:05 AM

Yes, beautiful little fishing village, just round the coast from Marbella, also a pretty little fishing village, just a couple of waterfront cafes - traditional spanish. We used to sail there from Gibraltar most weekends.

Oh, that was almost 25 years ago, and having read the rest of this thread I guess it has changed a bit!!!!!:lol1:

Gordo 31 March 2009 08:41 AM

we had a great time there a couple of years ago with our little one. we got a hire car and ranged along the coast - decent zoo/safari thing from memory, marbella is fun. puerto itself, as mentioned above, is pretty small but nice to see. during the day it's pleasant (boats, cars, beach, nice restaurants). At night it becomes stag/golf trip-tastic with lappy bars every few feet and the bar that Gary Linnker's brother owns attracting various unsavoury types. Definitely more of a boys' trip type place than a family holiday, but the beaches along the coast are great, Marbella is good and it's worth driving up into the mountains (Rhonda).

Been there loads of times and agree with most of the comments about being expensive, rich old fellas with nice cars and some nice toty too.

Some friends have a villa nearby and we go for a weekend once a year if we can. We always have a meal in The Red Pepper - nice restaurant and great for people watching.

We met Jade Goody there in May 2004 - she was pregnant with her first child and so was my wife, so they had something to talk about. To be honest, after meeting her, I never really disliked her.

Also saw Ashley Cole with a 'mystery' woman there 2 years ago. Gutted it wasn't Cheryl as I would love to bone, sorry meet, her.

The weather has been around 24-26 degrees for over a week, mostly blue skies with some rain late at night, I've been in the pool every day so it's been great for the time of year!

Hey, whereabouts is that. We stay quite often by the Marriot hotel in Guadalmina.

I spent a week there last year, stayed in a mates apartment there, but spent about £1500 in a week. :freak3:

Got engaged there so has some happy memories.

On the whole I really enjoyed the place, there is a really cool bar that mists you with cool water as you sit on hugely over sized furniture, feels like something out of the Flintstones. :D
