Quantum of Solace
Last night I watched Quantum of Solace and don't get me wrong, the film had lots of action, but the story line what rather hard to follow, e.g. nonexistent. I think I am going to have to watch the film a good few more times before I can understand what is going on.
I did not like the location changing every 5 minutes - one minute they are in Spain and the next they are in Haiti. There was a bit too much killing making Bond an cold blooded killer. I don't like this new Bond style, hard core brutish killer, I much preferred the more sophistication and glamor of the old Bonds. Does anyone feel the same? |
Bond is a heartless killer. Disregard the films (even the first Sean Connery films) and read the books.
|
I personally quite like the new bonds, didn't like the bonds after Roger Moore, Brosnan ones especially as I found them less believable with all the high tech gadgets.
|
I prefer Daniel Craig than Brosnan he reminded me of a bad smell..Anyway i vote Ray Mears as the next Bond...
|
I think the new Bond films are much better, the old ones were too close to comedy. The books are much better.
The Bourne trilogy to me is the standard. |
Great film :thumb:

Agree with SC008Y MAD. Maybe it's my tiny attention span, but it was just an hour and a half of fisticuffs in about a dozen locations around the world. Missed the storyline completely.
Give me Roger Moore laughs anyday and leave gritty realism to 'The Long Good Friday' type films... |
The action scenes just gave me a head-ache. The camera is far too close to the action and jumps about all over the place. I agree I'd need to watch it a few times to figure out what the hell is going on.
Also, I miss the humour that the old bonds had. I dont really care if that was in the books, it made it more entertaining IMO. |
I thought it was a sequel to "Casino Royale" and the main theme was revenge.
|
Is it based (even notionally) on a book? The real sequel to Casino Royale was 'Live and Let Die'.
Bond should be gritty and the 'humour' and trite (reade sh*te) 'Englishness' was due to / the fault of the series producer and had nothing to do with Flemming. The one thing that I havent appreciated in the Bourne films is the quick cutting and over-closeness, which detracts from their other qualities. Hopefully the new and improved Bond films wont continue to emulate this... |
It's based on a very short story, not really a book. The film was a deliberate attempt to make Bond a cold hearted assasin, which is how Fleming portrayed him :)
Still can't beat some of Connery's one liners....drops an electric fire in a bath and electrucutes the villain........."shocking". Or the best of all "no,no, Mr Bond, I expect you to die......" (the one with the laser between the legs. Class :D Shaun |

I was lucky enough to be in a 007 film 'The World is Not Enough' as the barman:) it was brilliant & i think Brosnan was too! even thou i still think the classics are most fun to watch;) also not forgetting Timothy Dalton! i think he was under rated:(

Quantum of Solace I thought, in all seriousness, was wank !

I like the new Bond but thought this film was a bit poor and the far fetched parachuting scene has been done a hundred times before
|
I wonder if these two films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are one offs as the ending of QOS ended like most of the bond films start with bond walking and then firing the Walther PPK.
|
The kids are watching it at the moment. I've got bored, so now I'm on the computer...
I can't quite put my finger on it. I thought the Bourne films were fantastic. The Bond looks like an episode of Spooks where they threw a huge amount of money at it, but it is still fight, change location, fight, change location. The bit I don't understand is that the Bourne films could be classed as the same thing. But IMHO they are gripping... |
I watched it again last night and much preferred it second time around. The story is actually quite good, I just don't like the fast camera work. You'll find he gets more slick in the next film, they are builiding the character up slowly
|
when I first saw DG in Casino Royal i though, at last a proper bond film, after the rubbish recently
(Connery the best Moore not bad v amusing) but all the films of the 90's looked like made for TV stuff, the cinematography was pants but agree QOS was a bit week re narrative and no where near as good as CR -- but at least it looked like a film |
its all gone a tad far fetched imo i lost the will to watch em after the world is not enough

I agree. Where is the realistic portration of modern society that "Moonraker" achieves these days :)

I loved QoS and Casino Royale - it is Bond as he should be.
|
Can anyone explain the meaning of the title-if anything?
Les |
I love the new Bond and it has a lot to do with Daniel Craig, he's like Bond should be, ruthless and sexy :D

Is the film worth parting with £7 in Tescos for?
