Google Street view

Just been on Google's streetview and there's my scoob clear as day with my address right there!

Seriously people check you house and get it blocked.

I hate to say it but this is a ticking timebome for all of us.

If it makes any difference.

Petition to: take action to get Google Maps to remove the Streetview application therefore protecting safety and security. | Number10.gov.uk

mag6/4 2 20 March 2009 08:16 PM

its been pulled after complaints

bugeyeandy 20 March 2009 08:25 PM

Still works for me

Carmar 20 March 2009 08:50 PM

What a stupid idea and once AGAIN another example of big brother, before long you won't be able to take a crap without someone watching via the net!.

s70rjw 20 March 2009 08:51 PM

Wasn't someone singing its praises on here yesterday?

adehook 20 March 2009 08:58 PM

doesnt work where i live yet

jasonius 20 March 2009 09:03 PM

FFS that's unbelievable.

When I heard about it this afternoon on the radio I thought it was going to be usual birdseye stuff, just maybe more detailed. Didn't realise it was actually street view..!:(

I know you can have your address removed, but what about cars etc..!?

This is actually quite scary. If you haven't seen this I suggest you take a look..!

The Rig 20 March 2009 09:50 PM

lukcily my area isnt viewable by the street

stupid idea tho

Peanuts 20 March 2009 09:55 PM

Ticking time bomb?
bit sensationalist wouldn't you say?

MaDaSS 20 March 2009 10:12 PM

I just cannot think of words strong enough to say how enraged i am at that! You can nye on zoom right into my front f'ing window FFS! Are they real in the head?
Where the f**k do they get off allowing that to be viewed?
No sodding privacy anymore. Google c**ts.

zs_phil 20 March 2009 10:46 PM

cannot even do my city never mind my street :D
agree though i think its a stupid idea just think of all the burglars thinking and planning the escape route

Flaps 20 March 2009 10:56 PM

It looks like it isn't available anywhere in the UK when I go on to it.

Stevie-Sport 20 March 2009 11:07 PM

same here.

dunx 20 March 2009 11:28 PM

It's not a live feed fellas....

But does it pose a big enough problem for us ?

dunx

P.S. Mine's working fine, I wouldn't let them in to our select area....:cuckoo:

Skoobie Dhu 21 March 2009 01:06 AM

I can see my house - reminded me that I still need to paint the windows:freak3:

matty01 21 March 2009 01:12 AM

I know what you mean about the privacy , but take a tour of the capital citys of europe and the main citys in the usa and tell me that it's still a bad idea , you cannot see any more on it than somene can see from a car anyway ,it really has opened up the world go out there and visit the mean streets of los angeles or times square it's almost like you've been there, (visually speaking) ,fantastic!!

I am sure google will remove any property of yours from the photos so long as you ask politley. On the other hand, only time will tell if it has an effect on the 'quality' (sic) of burglary/organised crime etc , as for terrorists i think they are so commited [brain washed], Street View won't matter, having said that i can imagine anti-terrorist forces trying to take advantage of intercepting GSV activity to extrapolate indicative trends of target assesment activity of terrorist/s, but thats just speculation ;)

StickyMicky 21 March 2009 01:15 AM

My mates scooby has also been captured outside his house!

matty01 21 March 2009 01:49 AM

BTW if you want to have your house blurred ? etc go into google maps find your house in street view and click 'report a concern'...

Minitrue 21 March 2009 03:54 AM

Its of less practical use to wrongdoers than the aerial photos that have been available for years! Some of the comments here are priceless.

swampster 21 March 2009 04:05 AM

It's not like you can type in the search box.. "show me the houses with flash cars sat outside".

I seriously doubt that some crim is gonna spend hours scouring google streetview on the off chance they might find a tasty motor in one of the pics outside one of the houses, there's literally millions of street level photos.. not to mention the fact they're usually months (eventually they'll be anything from 2-5 years old - they don't update that often), and the chances said flash car will be in the same place... it'd be easier just to have a cruise/walk around... at least the data is accurate then!

scooby1doo1 21 March 2009 07:50 AM

Very simlar to google earth.

Norman Dog 21 March 2009 10:04 AM

This is quite concerning :Suspiciou

Suppose someone like the Russians wanted to steal your Scoob...

I think people are being a bit paranoid here - the point of Google street view is that it shows you WHAT ANYONE CAN SEE BY WALKING DOWN YOUR STREET ! it doesnt let people snoop around your back garden or go in your living room to see what kind of TV you have...

Minitrue 21 March 2009 10:09 AM

Mica Red? No chance! :D

The pics can be weeks, months or even older - can't believe why people are so bothered. A car parked outside any house does not mean it lives there. I'd love it if there was a street view of my house - but there ain't.

jasonius 21 March 2009 11:34 AM

I suspect that those of you saying it's paranoid (or worse) do not have images of your house/car/interior contents etc available..?!

Initially I thought it was a great thing until I actually looked at it. I still think it a very impressive service, but what exactly is the purpose of it..?

Comparisons to other birdseye view maps, which have been available for some years, do not invade your privacy the way street level does..!

Finally, yes it's no different to anyone walking down your street, but let me ask you this, if you saw some shady figure standing outside your house taking photo's of your house and car wouldn't you feel a little worried..? Only now they don't have to do they, so you'll be none the wiser when gangs of car jackers/TWOCers exchanging/texting/emailing each other the url of your house and car..!

So, do those of you belittling our concerns have an image of your home/car available..?

Pakolainen 21 March 2009 12:10 PM

i just checked it out, at first i thought it was the same as google earth, which gave a grainy picture. but checking out a familiar address goves a phot picture.

impressive. how they manage to get all this in so good detail, from a satellite.
