PPP vs Stage 1. Which to go for?

Thought I'd join up this forum for a bit of advice.

I drive a 55 plate WRX and at the moment the engine is bog standard.
Having owned the car for 5 months, I'm now hungry for a bit more power.

Am considering getting PPP installed, but am weighing this up against a stage 1 tune up.

Am I right in thinking PPP consists of Prodrive backbox and center section, remap and new hoses?
If so how much bhp/torque will this give me?

My other option is to go for an Afterburner Vortex and center section from Scoobyworld, then add a Green Panel filter and then remap.
Will this give me similar, or better improvements on bhp/torque over the PPP package?

Not sure which route to go down.
As a note, I'm not worried about any warranty issues.

Sorry another question: How much for PPP and roughly how much for the Stage 1 tuning I mentioned above?

Go for the Scoobyworld route. Will give you better gains for less.

If warranty is an issue: PPP, there is no other option!

If you're not bothered about that: better gains and better value to be had elsewhere.

PPP is a Subaru approved, warranty friendly power upgrade that is generic as opposed to specific to the car.
Your standard bhp will 225 and whilst PPP is rated at 265 not may (if any) scoobs will achieve that figure. 245/250bhp is more common.
PPP from a dealer costs around £1600.

You will get better value for money by changing the exhaust/ decatting or sports catting, upgrading the fuel pump and having a custom remap specific to your car. You should then see 280bhp but more importantly loads more torque and better drivability.
I could not imagine my scoob without the PPP but at some stage will get the remap to release a few more horses! :D

Something else to think about is to upgrade suspension components - rear ARB and drop links is a good place to start - the drop links are plastic as standard and flex under load.

Have fun shopping! :thumb:

I bought my WRX with PPP and whilst happy with the overall performance given a time machine I would have gone down standard + stage 1 tuning. Don't get me wrong, the PPP is actually a good package - certainly adds stronger performance than my previous comparable scoob experiences (2003 JDM WRX mapped for 98 ron @ 250bhp) but is still slightly lame compared to the stage 1 and re-map option.

That said, my WRX PPP does appear to perform better than some of the others out there. Boost peaks at 1.3 bar and regulary spikes at 1.35 bar in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. I have no clue whatsoever why this is:freak3:

PS. Maybe it had had a re-map before I bought it:lol1:

AET stated that I'd definately need an uprated intercooler, STI pinks and FPR if I wanted a VF34 fitted to my 03 WRX.
