How much for the transmission oil pan sump plug from the Subaru dealer?
£12.90+VAT!!!!!

And to follow that how much for the washer?
£6.30+VAT!!!

Nope, neither are made of solid gold, supplied by NASA or come with a hand signed note from the CEO of Subaru. :eek:

Oh, and wait for it, even though I spoke to the parts dept and the man who actually services "this type of car" neither of them knew it existed!!! They had to fax me a piccie so I could confirm it for them. Which obviously means during services they don't drain the transmission oil pan :nono:

Guess where I DEFINTELY WON'T be taking my car for a service (not that I was planning too anyway).

replace the sump plug with a magnetic one, will be much better

The Transmission Plug is magnetic ..... the engine plug isn't.

Why?

Well, basically, the engine sump should contain no metal particles .... these have been caught quite adequately by the Oil Filter!

That's why they are not fitted as standard.

I was hoping it was magnetic the same as the rear and front diff plugs. That might explain some of what appears to be the excessive cost of the plug itself (even though its only a 14mm hex bolt).

Interesting claims on that site.

It collects particles smaller than 35 microns - larger particles are caught by the Oil Filter - I would suggest that such tiny particles are of no threat to your engine internals ....... the manufacturing tolerances are many times greater than these particles and, in any case, they are in suspension in the oil.

I changed my Transmission Oil a month or two ago and the plug had a grey 'paste' on it - minute particles (however, larger than 35 microns) .... and just what I would want to see and expect, normal wear and good for moving parts.

I too am a bit dubious about needing a magnetic sump plug, mainly because Subaru spent hundreds of millions in the design of the car and never thought it needed one.

Yeah but a mag sump plug is cheaper than the genuine SUbaru one, it doesn't leak, picks up a little grey sludge, doesn't need a genuine washer either and best of all, when you get to the stage where the oil gushes out and you usually lose the plug into the bottom of your drain pan and have to fish it out at the end, the mag plug just sticks to the side of the sump out of the way!

you lot need to get down a dealer and give them this part no.807020010 it's an engine sump plug from 08my> and it's magnetic and it will fit all subarus for the grand price of £4.78 inc vat

i can't believe you lot are paying £18 and you call dealers a rip off!!
