Pondering getting another MR2
I went to Mitsubishi to drive an Evo X on Saturday (the 300 SST is utterly rubbish so that's my review done) and just as I was leaving a silver Rev3 MR2 comes into the carpark :norty:
I asked if they wanted to sell it and with only 92k on the clock and only one owner (50 year old accountant) from new (1995) I'm seriously considering selling my girlfriend's MK4 Golf GTI and getting my 4th (well 3.5th MR2 - blew a GTS up in 40 mins about 6 years ago :lol1:) MR2. I think I can get this one for £2200. Full toyota history, T-bar roof, smooth sounding engine and tidy interior. Would I be mad? |
If you've already had 3, then you must know more about them than pretty much anyone else on here! I guess you'll be aiming for at least an hour's worth of fun out of this one then ;)

Cracking cars and have had a few myself. A couple were dogs though.
As great as the younger Evo's and scoobs are they are just another jap turbo charged car. Why spend £25K on a car, when for 3K you have the same power but in a mid engined 2 seater proper sports car. The MR2 will give you as much driving pleasure if not more IMO, and it breaks in a big way, you won't loose too much sleep over it. You won't be scared to pick up the odd mark, or be scared to get your hands dirty and do the odd mechanical job on a MR2 They look really nice left alone, and ample power in stock form. Once you have finally scratched the turbo jap car itch thing, move onto a something that will make you feel a bit special and something like a 996, TVR, etc, etc. |
Lol, ask your girlfriend first.;)
MR2's are nice cars in old guise:cool: |
Mine:
BEFORE http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../cars/mr21.jpg AFTER http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...s/DSC00003.jpg now has better wheels and £4k's worth of coilovers and other trick bits ;) not bad for something that was stored for 3+ years and never used. |
This is the same as the one I'm looking at
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...aMR2Silver.jpg Already had one exactly like it and missed it since 2003 |
I would have another one. Ran the Impreza and an Mr2 for a couple of years as didn't want to get rid of the MR2. Saying that it was a summer car only, a bit scary in the winter. Got married, the MR2 had to go :o(

I've been looking at getting one for a while now.
Turbo'd, red with black wheels! |
I like the styling more than the replacement MRS and dare i say quicker too, especially from the Jap spec variety .

Yes! Get (another) one!! I've had 3 now and think they're great - here's my last one (rev 3 t-bar turbo)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/7june071.jpg I quite fancy a rev 5 now... :thumb: |
a 5 would be my ideal one too but it'll have to wait a bit now. One day though I'll get a Rev5 turbo in black. I'll probably import one through newera or something so i can get exactly what I want. Plus it's fun to have a wide chose of cars from out there.
