Well have finally gone and bought myself my first scooby - a 2005 wrx which is more than enough for an old git like me (well for now anyway).

not the car (colour or year) i was intending to go for but the fact that it was in very good condition swayed me over.

anyway ford garage where I bought it from said they would service it or send it to subaru for a service.

can you tell me what is the schedule for a 30k service ie diff oil change, plugs etc so as I can make sure the garage does all the correct items.

maybe once I get it I might be able to help answer some questions rather than ask them all the time.

Not sure on the 30K service off the top of my head, but if no one answers shortly for you, I will take a look as I have some manuals, and post some info for you. I very nearly bought an '05 WRX a few weeks back, but as it is a second car decided to find a low mileage mint classic instead. When you picking her up? What colour is she?

should get it next week sometime and its grey in colour - a bit different but not what I had in mind originally.

I have wanted a scooby for ages but everytime I decided to go for it life seemed to conspire against me and throw things into the equation that prevented me from going ahead.

now I intend to enjoy my scooby experience and wake up the neighbours at 6am with the very loud exhaust that comes with it (lol).

30k service is a change of all fluids barr the brake fluid (which is changed every 20k.)So engine oil, filter,air filter, gearbox, diff, spark plugs etc. Enjoy

Congrats on your purchase. I've had my grey MY05 WRX from new and still totally love it. I think it looks subtle and doesn't scream 'boy racer' (I'm not exactly young!)

I can confirm the 30k service is a big one as already mentioned, so make sure they've done all the gear oils.

Your car can't be standard if it's got a loud exhaust (the std twin pipes are virtually silent).

1st thing you should do is put a whiteline rear anti-roll bar and drop links (if not already done). There's 15% off at DemonTweeks (another thread somewhere) and it transforms the handling.

I was under orders not to go for blue so I like to think the understated grey is more apt for us older chaps.

plus it matches the colour of my hair lol.

only mods are a ninja 2 exhaust and a turbo timer - insurance isn`t too bad as well ..£340 - but might have a look around just to make sure I can`t shave a few more pounds off it.

That's a cracking insurance price. I've got a few more mods than that, but am paying over £100 more and most places were quoting nearer the £1k mark. Who are you with?

As for colour, my personal opinion is that blue only works on STis, silver is common and black is a pain in the ar$e to keep clean. Red or white look nice but are rare.

That was from admiral as part of a multi car quote - infact I have made a mistake on the price.

It should be £298.99 without declaring the exhaust and £319.60 if I do.

To give you a better idea i put in the mods as an exhaust and a remap to 280bhp and it came back with a price of £436.76

not sure how this compares with other specialist insurers but seems pretty good for a run of the mill home brand name.

That is good for a 'normal' insurer. Mine has full exhaust, remap, arb and panel filter and I pay £450ish, so not far off. Obviously age, location and usage would have an influence too.
