NHS or private dentist?
 

Hi,
I need a new dentist as my old one retired. I've a choice of and NHS one, but do you get better treatment going private. My biggest complaint about my old NHS one was he never spent any time discussing prevention. It was straight in and out. Do you get better treatment, more time, or is it the same, and one is subsidised, one isn't.

Not really noticed a difference TBH, i am with Denplan, my dentist does NHS and Private work. In and out very efficiently, polite and does the job

Took our daughter to see an HNS dentist and he as great, talked us through what he was doing and took time and care with our daughter.

I think it is as much down to the dentist and how they are.

There are good and not so good dentists in either sector......Personal recommendations from friends is a good start :D

It also depends on what you want done. NHS dentists are limited in what they can do (or what they will suggest can be done) by the NHS pen pushers / beran counters. There are treatments which just aren't available on the NHS. A private dentist can suggest and work on all the available alternatives. Of course you'll have to pay (as I know for personal, painful experience :()

Mine was NHS, now he's private. Same great service before and after.

The only difference I noticed is that a check up and polish cost under £20 on the NHS and the best part of £50 if you go private.

im also with denplan and currently pay £18 a month i think its worth it as i get all the work done if needed :eek: and also enjoy a clean i get much better service than my lass does on the nhs and they have better magazines to read while i wait :lol1:

I am with the NHS. Dentist is nice, talks to me like a human, takes an interest in my daughter's teeth etc. Having an air polish in a couple of weeks, £40. The check up was £16.20. Much cheaper than going private. I would like to have my teeth professionally whitened, but I will have to save up!
