blob sti winglets

I'm wanting to fit the sti front bumper winglets ( I think that's what they are called ? ) to my WRX 54 blob eye. They are the corner parts on the side of the front bumper.

Does anyone know if they would just clip on or if mods are required or even if an sti front bumper would have to be fitted?

They go straight on with a few mods, eg drilling off the front locating tabs and cutting a few slots in your bumper.
Pretty easy thing to do if your confident. I utilised all 3 of the locking tabs across the top of the corner splitter, some people cut off 1.
Once they are in they are never coming out so measure twice and cut once as they say.

Also a have a look at:
Mods

Once these are fitted you can fit a STi front lip splitter as well to complete the look;):D

its a canter, i was put off buy the cutting slots bit so i just bonded them on with tiger seal. worked a treat

cheers for replies

Good guide that

I've ordered the front winglets from Subaru already painted for only £80 each which seems cheap? also a sti front splitter.

Just want it to look a bit different to normal without going over the top

I need to get round to rebonding my winglets on (Allan may remember a thread of months and months ago I posted). I think the only option for me is to bond them as there wasn't any 'lugs' left on them when I bought them. Where can I get that "Tiger Seal" stuff from or is there something even better? (they're held on with a kind of spongy double sided tape it looks like at the mo)

Yes I do remember, you can buy TS here amongst other places, never used it myself though.

Bonding/sticking them on is probably your only option with no lugs.

I did this a couple of weeks ago prior to fitting the HT autos sti V-Limited front lip.......

Its very straightforward to do - this clip might help give you some idea: YouTube - Installing STi Splitters + V-Limited Lip on 2004 WRX Wagon
(search on youtube for Installing STi Splitters + V-Limited Lip on 2004 WRX Wagon)

The only thing I did differently was where that guy in the clip used a dremel to cut the top three slots, I used a Kitchen knife, and warmed it up with a blowtorch, and used that to simply melt each slot carefully and gradually through the bumper....

As said before though, once the slots are made, make sure they are the right size, as once you try and push the corner splitters into the slots, they will not come out unless you remove the whole bumper to get to the other side to release the tabs!!

Using the top three slots, and the bolts across the bottom, I found this to be perfectly sufficient, without the need for any bonding to be done. Just remove the other clips that are not used as per the vid.

I’ve had another idea.

The panel only needs to be pinned at the leading edge at the top.

Try and get a fixing that looks like a disk with a threaded stud attached. Attach this to the back on the panel, drill a suitable hole and attach with a nut. You might find this is easier than cuttings slots anyway. The slot size is critical, too big and the lug will be loose or worse, you will see it after the panel is fitted. This is the reason I only use one.

LOL Cheers Allan you're more dedicated to getting my winglets fixed properly than I am!
How would I fix the threaded stud to the winglet though?
If I had a job and had some spare cash I'd just start over again with some new winglets!
Buy cheap and bodge it, spend twice as much! :(

LOL... I love a challenge, did you see what I had to do to my Sti side skirts ?

If you could find such a fitting, you could try Araldite or maybe even that Tiger Seal. I'm sure yours are useable.

Come on your not joining in with the fun, it's all good humoured stuff :thumb:

buffalo 12 March 2009 09:37 PM

i bought my tiger seal off ebay. i bought the HT autos winglets which didnt come with little tabs (tho dnt know if mine was just a mistake) so had no option but to bond it on. used masking tape to hold the top of the winglet to the bumper while it bonded so it didnt peel away. i only did this as i didnt fancy the drilling of the bumper but i guess either way ur gona wreck ur bumper cus theres no getting that tiger seal off again without a mess i am lead to believe, and with drilled slots, well you gota hole lol. maybe i am reiterating here but imho and if ur not too sure i would use the bonding method as if u cut it wrong ur fooked, tho these guys will prob tell u its easy so its up to u bud
