What should i buy next???

I have a feeling that this is going to be a pointless question (asking a subaru website) but i am currently starting to think about buying a new car, and i am looking at a few but i am totallu undecided. I have aprox 15k to spend and the cars i have thought about are
Golf GTI
Golf R32
Focus ST
WRX STI
Evo

I have had a WRX PPP in the past and i loved it, i am wanting something thats going to be fun but also ok for the Mrs to drive with the kids etc. If anyone has had any experience with any. Tell your thoughts.

Cheers

TonyBurns 08 March 2009 11:28 AM

Well for you, the kids and the missus, that rules out the vw (3 door) and the ford, so its probably hawkeye STI sort of money, makes it easier to see what you want then ;)

Tony:)

theboy 08 March 2009 11:30 AM

To be honnest the 3 door would not be a problem. I have had a 3 door before and the kids jump straight in. The Evo is the outsider to be honnest. If i buy a Golf or ST i know it will be a lot newer car.

Golf GTI's and R32's are available as 5 doors. Doesn't stop them being dull......

I am not expecting them to be rapid, but they are more refined than the Scooby!!

God i hate decisions:wonder::wonder::wonder:

Pete 08 March 2009 11:39 AM

Spec C if it were me, although in truth, probably not as usuable as an STI in fairness, by that i mean a little too raw maybe.

I,ve had 4 Evos, great capable cars but lacked something for me, very tunable too though which is a good thing if you,re into tuning, servicing costs not the best, every 4.5k, but go and test drive one, you might love them...

madisonmonkey 08 March 2009 11:44 AM

No way my missus would use the Spec C daily and we don't have any kids :D

In all seriousness my sister has a GTI and finds it great with my nephew. It just struggles to excite as a drivers car.

TonyBurns 08 March 2009 11:47 AM

Well 14.5k gets you this scoob Subaru : subaru impreza wrx sti 06 with mods wr blue &q
This R32 for 14k Volkswagen : 56 PLATE GOLF R32 4 MOTION
This GTI for 13.5k Volkswagen : IMMACULATE GOLF GTI 3 DR 11500 MILES
And pretty much a brand spanking new focus st ;)

Tony,

Is it me, but does the engine bay in that Hawkeye look filthy?? or is that protective wax stuff they spray on them??

TonyBurns 08 March 2009 12:07 PM

Probably a combination of the wax and dirt i think Pete :( bit of gunk and a sponge will clean that manifold up nicely :D

Tony:)

My wife has a Golf GTI and it is a lovely car with lots of cool features, but I don't get any where near the same pleasure driving it as my WRX. It is quiet and comfy and a nice place to be on a long drive, but just not exciting.

I've tried a couple of R32s. The press say they are not as good as the GTI, but I quite like them. They are nose heavy and quite hard work to drive, but the 4WD is good and the V6 sounds great.

The Focus ST is probably as good as my WRX was as standard. It sounds good, has great seats, better stereo (!) and handles really well. But, no matter how good it is, it is still a Ford Focus (yawn). I paid over £4k less for my WRX than the ST was and have spent about £2k on it and now it blows the ST away.

Not driven an Evo for years, so can't fairly compare, but can't imagine it would be as missus friendly as any of the others.

All IMHO!

I am not one for tuning, i think that maybe the Ford or Golf will give me car thats better inside but will i be excited by the driving???? maybe not

I thought the ST was pushing 20K???

oxscooby 08 March 2009 01:45 PM

What about an audi b5 RS4? quick (380bhp as standard), luxury, rare and also really practical being an estate. :thumb:

imo stick with a scoob, evos are overpriced and over rated. we have a vw and their after sales for us has been poor, had an ST, got bored. an outsider to consider though imo is an alfa romeo 147 gta. 3.2 litre, sounds great, rapid , pick them up cheap although you do need to be aware of what you are taking on, bad electrics, finding a garage prepared to work on them etc. but its one car thats diffrent, turns heads and is loads of fun for the money as well as proper luxury inside.

tomdscooby 08 March 2009 10:09 PM

if i had my time again(lol) i'd buy a good classic sti,or at current prices, a blobeye jdm sti and spend the rest getting it up to big power, can stil be very drivable and reliable if done right

theboy 09 March 2009 01:51 PM

I think i am maybe favoring a STI. maybe a 07 plate. I have the feeling i will get fed up with the ST etc... Dont think i will have another blue Scooby. Maybe silver or black

GETitSIDEways 09 March 2009 03:20 PM

Dont buy nothing else but Japanese.

Evo or STI...EVO for more oversteer and STI for more understeer.

Classics are best with both types not as heavy, quicker of the mark and easier to chuck about, wifey and kids would prob prefer the new ones though. thats my opinion if that helps:thumb:

madisonmonkey 11 March 2009 06:48 PM

How about a Mazda RX8? I was very impressed when I drove my old man's.

MooseRacer 11 March 2009 08:03 PM

Golf GTI - Almost every review rates them as better than the ST, but they get slagged on here. I have one and it's great for what it is.

Golf R32 - If you think you'll miss 4WD too much then get one, else stick with the GTI

Focus ST - loved by many on here and a great hothatch (or GT as Autocar call it ;) ) Take your choice really between it and the Golf

WRX STI - Why wouldn't you?

Evo - As above
