CISSP - Is it worth doing?

Is the CISSP still held in the high regard it use to be, or has it become commoditised, like the MCSE?

After a bit of slog (lack of time) I upgraded my MCSE NT4 to MCSE:Security 2003.

I'm now in two minds whether to carry on with the Windows 2008 route, as I won't really use it at work, or to focus on something like CISSP.

Any comments, other worthwhile qualifications or helpful hints to get started would be welcome! :)

i have upgraded my NT4.0 all the way to 2008 (via 2000 and 2003) but as you say its a bit of a numbti qualification nowadays

A few years ago I was a CCNA and CCNP but those have lapsed now -- but Cisco qualification were/are still held in much higher regard than MS ones

so would go for it if I were you, makes you much more empoyable, companies HAVE to have a certain amount of qualified people to keep their partner status

The maintenance requirements of CISSP are pretty stringent as well, just something to bear in mind.
And you need more than just to pass the exam to be able to call yourself CISSP.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it's more than an exam.

I can cobble together over 5 years experience within 3 or 4 of the fields, and it should be pretty easy to find someone to endorse me as well.

Jsut wondered if it were worth the months of reading, etc for the exam.

I'm afraid not, I'm in the same boat, got some self study books off amazon and got stuck in. There's loads of web material but I'm too distracted by porn if I use the computer to study :D
