Career Change question in Mechanics
Im currently in the process of leaving my current job, but really stuck on what to do next.
I really would love a job in vehicle mechanics as thats all i seem to talk about at home and would love to learn everything there is to know about it. My problem is im 25 with no previous knowledge of mechanics. Im a quick learner and more than happy to put the hours in to learn this new trade. My question is.... what route do i take? from what i can make out, the mechanics route is a long and extensive one. Time which to be honest, i dont have. Besides, it says everywhere i need to have a modern apprenticeship, which im too old to do. (Never thought id hear myself say that). So how do i do it?? ? |
It would be difficult without an Apprenticeship behind you but you could try your local college/tech for training courses and to find a placement within the motor trade- or find a sympethetic employer who is willing to take you on with Core/Basic Skills.
If your handy with the spanners and have a good sense of humour (essential in the trade - lol ) then go for it !! Must say though - you never stop learning - even after 30 yrs in the trade. Mick |
