Hi all, got a new 2K domain setup. Still got the old NT4 domain running exchange 5.5. Gonna install exchange 2000 on the new 2K domain. Can anyone recommend the best way of transfering the 5.5 stuff to the 2000 exchange. Options so far are ADC (active directory connector) or Exmerge. Has anyone got experience of either or both. Only about 10 mailboxes and a few public folders so not very large...

Many thanks

Dom

Quick and simple...

Use Outlook to export each mailbox and the public folders to PSTs.

Then import back from the PSTs after reconfiguring OL to talk to the new Exchange Server.

To be honest with that amount of users the manual approach is going to be better..

Unless..
You have a massive mailstore in x55 - .pst migration to x2k could mean an even bigger mailstore
You have a lot of information in each mailbox in x55 - it will be laborous transferring all that addressing/personal info across to x2k
Public Folders will be a real pain without the ADC or a a third party tool (read money)

If you've got a test bed you could play with the ADC first an get comfortable, or set up a one way ADC from x55 into the AD.. that way if it goes wrong then it only the AD side thats buggered..

Of course if your AD is live then you have no options for error...

Cheers guys, I was thinking that if I use the ADC then I could leave both running in sync mode then just switch x55 off on Friday morning and move everyone to the new AD with x2000... does this seem reasonable...

Get yourself a copy of the Exchange Resource kit or the BORK and use exmerge it is a lot quicker than using outlook step by step...

I was thinking about exmerge, just wondered whether this would allow me to do the public folders...
