Car Paint Damage - Advice Please

We have a Ford Ka, red colour, known as "bronze" IIRC.

Looks quite good when all cleaned up but something has been spilled on the bonnet which has taken the top shiny surface of the paint off leaving what I suppose is the undercoat being a kind of dull matt finish and a fairly different colour shade. Damage is quite a few large blobs say 4 inches x 6 inches with some smaller spills.

I have no idea what caused this.

What do I do now please?

TIA, David :)

I don't think there's any other option than a respray unfortunately :( It sounds like the lacquer has come off, possibly caused by bird muck. Or it could be stone chips that have got water underneath.

Thanks Bob - I think you are right about the lacquer coating. I wonder if I can get a hand spray for this and try a careful botch as I don't want to pay for a proper whole bonnet spray (£150-ish?).

I don't think it's birds or stone chips though. Damage is right at back of bonnet close to windscreen. Do you think window anti-ice spray could be the culprit? I always use the cheapest stuff quite liberally so I wonder......:wonder:

I'd say £150 sounds about right for a cheap job :) As for tins, as you say it'll only ever be a botch but a botch that serves a purpose.

De-icer could be to blame yes, also screen wash can turn nasty if it's too strong.

Can you not find a colour match bonnet? It would work out a lot cheaper.
