What exactly does MOT stand for, I know it's the equivalent like the 'TUV4 in Germany for example, but I was just wondering....

If you guys in the UK buy an exhaust or body kit (Blitz, C-West stuff etc) imported from Japan, can you get a MOT for this or how does it work in the UK?

Thanks for enlightening me about this

'Ministry of Transport' AFAIAA so strictly speaking it ought to be DOT (Department of Transport) or DLTR (Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions) over which Fattt Two Jags presides. Trouble is, saying "I'm just going to have the car DLTR'd" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

If you buy an exhaust it has to pass an emissions test,if it doesnt pass this it doesnt get its ticket, leading to no road tax and invalid insurance, not to mention the fines if you get caught!

This is why the people on here with full decatted systems keep hold of the centre pipe for MOT time(once a year),then get the emissions test done with the system as hot as possible.

Mark - it's now Stephen Byers, not two Jags....

Thanks a lot, now however if you guys wanna fit a full body kit to a car (example : UK Lexus IS200 and you wanna fit a Blitz bodykit).
What are the criterias for bodykits?

FreeT 24 February 2002 08:34 PM

Stephen Byers no for long - have you seen the news - he's getting booted.

Hi FreeT - Looking forward to the day when we have a Secretary of State for Transport that actually holds driving licence. What kind of middle aged bloke never learns to drive....

Last I heard was that Byers was embroiled in another argument over whether he'd sacked Martin Sixsmith or not. Seems like the bloke has an identical twin brother that does stupid things when Byers' back is turned....

No restrictions on body kits. M.O.T. Test is anual safety + emission check. Vehicles 3yrs up. Brakes steering suspension lights exh. no leaks & gas analysis within limits Wipers screen washers etc. Apart from gas analysis on recent m/y cars with de-cat it should present no problem on a well maintained car.

Harry
Good spot mate - just showing my lack of political knowledge but I don't reckon Byers is long for this world.
Cheers
Mark
