which decat down pipe for a classic?

Hi,

seems like there are a few different brands of decat down pipe. But im thinking. its just a pipe right so does it really matter? 200 quid for a bent meter of pipe seems such a rip off.

So yeah, i need a 3" de cat down pipe. Shall i just get any make inc the ebay specials?

Anyone got one second hand for a classic?

its a 98 sti v4 btw.

anyone advise?

Also how cross compatible are decat pipes?

will a v123 56 fit a v4? sti vs wrx / uk2000?

Also i assume all downcats will come with a bit to screw the sensor into.?

As long as it has a bell mouth I wouldnt worry too much. Newage are different to classic AFAIK.

Have had a Haywood&scott decat downpipe on for a few years , with an at the time optional splitter in the bell mouth to separate the gas flows, mine is 2 1/2" to standard centre pipe, on my MY00 with tek3 it makes 282 bhp and 336 ft/lbs

Stainless exhausts manifolds headers

the only downside is MOT time,so dont forget to keep the cat`d downpipe you remove !

Ray T 25 February 2009 06:17 PM

you can normally get away with just the centre cat if its nice and warm, mine passes with no problems.

The Rig 25 February 2009 06:31 PM

Ah,if you have a uk car that is.

imports only have the 1 CAT in th downpipe.

suppose you could fit a mid Cat on an import for the MOT

scoobyc 25 February 2009 08:15 PM

yeah will just shuv the cat back on for mot time.
