Whats the biggest waste of money mod you have done?

As above and i'm not sure if it's been posted before. But what is the biggest waste of money that you have spent on your scoob and it hasn't quite worked out.

I'm talking BOV's, Spoilers that dont quite work out, Stickers, You get the idea.

My car came with EBC brakes on it an they have cracked already lol they were pretty much new

On a non scoob - I put Gneuine TVR Tuscan carbon exhausts on my old saxo......... wow i ruined my car in a horrific way. sold it 1 week after doing that hideous mod.. Whats was i thinking (it was 5 years ago when i was 17)

[-(o)-] 24 February 2009 08:45 AM

An HID kit that gave good as no difference between dip and main beams. Kept it on the car for 2 months before ditching it in favour of my old bulbs bulbs. £200 well spent

orbix 24 February 2009 08:45 AM

Fitting STI suspension, from a v5 apparently, to my classic. It took me all day to do and i haven`t noticed that much difference. Also it hasn`t stopped a knocking noise from the rear which i hope it would. I should have put the money towards a coilover group buy instead!

GazTheHat 24 February 2009 09:58 AM

The 3" Revolution exhaust system.

It was built crap, looked crap and after a few months of not being able to hear my car, i got a new exhaust system.

A ecutek remap, which was replaced by a simtek a month after. £650 lost
Also sports downpipe and cat pipe, which has been replaced by a h&s decat after 1 month, £420 down the drain

blue headlight bulbs - failed on the MOT
I find the shift light quite helpful - catches my eye when concentrating ont' road

mental-mark 24 February 2009 06:59 PM

glad to knw that i havent made any costly mistakes as of yet as i usually buy second hand off ebay or research deeply into the product on this forum and have other peoples opinions first :thumb:

oh 1 mistake actually paid £155 for a polished inlet manifold bloke said it fitted my car when actually i have a my97 impreza and the inlet was for a pre my96 sold it for £140 so only lost £15

dunx 24 February 2009 06:59 PM

:lol1: scoobian, doesn't that big noisy thing under the bonnet catch your attention ? ;)

dunx

P.S. Mine is a parallel fuel rail mod, how will I know if it was going to blow up if it doesn't :wonder:

marcus7 24 February 2009 07:11 PM

A second hand apexi fc ecu that died whilst mapping.......was only on the car about 3hrs top!! So called 'uprated discs and pads' for the standard 4 pots.......killed them easily and went straight to a big brake kit!

stuartknox 24 February 2009 07:21 PM

omp brake pads, might as well have stuck tampons in the calipers, they were crap!

me too although i didnt spend 20K on mine.

JonMc 24 February 2009 07:24 PM

I've not made any bad purchases as such, I've just bought loads of stuff and left it sat in the garage unfitted for ages. Taking the car off the road for the whole of March so I can get them done, includes larger TMIC, Walbro, Hybrid DV, oil catch can, adjustable rear arms, de-cat, up-pipe, GGR induction kit with heatshield, brake stopper. I could made a fortune in interest if I'd left the money in the bank and bought all the stuff now.

but with the scooby it would be a new tdo5 turbo and then the garage who told me the turbo was dead then told it wasnt the turbo its piston number 4 so i got to buy and engine

Have a look at you rear bumper fixings if you've got noises coming from the rear, I had the same which drove me nuts for month. I added extra nuts and bolts and the knocking noise went away:lol1:

The Zohan 24 February 2009 08:40 PM

EBC grooved and dimpled disks and greenstuff on a classic - just rubbish, no feel, and well...rubbish at stopping the car!
