Looking for a scooby !!

Hi there I'm new to the forum.

I'm looking for an sti I have always wanted one but never had the cash or been too young for the insurance.

Few questions ??

Running costs I have a shogun sport warrioir which i'm selling to finance the scooby which is does around 22 mpg maybe 30 on a run. Will I been running aroung the same mpg in an sti?

I have about 7.5k to spent could stretch for the right car , what year spec do you recon I could get ?

I'm now 31 living in mid wales what sort of insurance will I be paying?

I hear alot of night mare stories of transmission , turbo's engines etc should I be concerned?

Welcome mate,

Okay here goes, i average about 250 miles to a tank on a STi, reckon about 20 mpg

You could get a nice bugeye Sti or maybe a high mileage blobeye Sti, its a big minefield with JDM's, Parrallel imports and uk cars so do a thorough search to get the right info and for insurance you get depends on your location etc but should be no more than £400 i reckon.

Also they are quite strong cars all round if looked after, i am on my third now and have had no MAJOR dramas.

Good luck, but do not dive in to this as it could cost you in the long run.

7.5 k should get you a tidy Bugeye STI. MPG around 20 ,25 on a run
Engines, turbos and gearboxes are extremely strong if properly looked after eg allowing it to warm up and cool down regular oil changes, correct fuel. Best of luck Bob

You will have more than enough with that budget. I have just sold my absolute minter for almost £1k less than that.
20MPG is fair. I got a bit more on a run, services are a bit costly as are clutches breaks etc but its too be expected.

Top car though, You will have endless fun. I had mine for about a year and I loved every single day I drove it.

crammy 23 February 2009 10:11 PM

i bought my first scoob about a month ago. its a bugeye sti with the prodrive pack. i only get about 20 mpg on a sensible run and about 15 roundtown, but i would nt get rid of it. probably even keep it iffuel cost £2 a litre. best cars ever. never buying anything else

btwellz 23 February 2009 10:13 PM

I guess at 300 odd bhp fuel will take a hit !!

btwellz 24 February 2009 07:56 AM

Looking around I much prefer the blog eye tothe bug i model , looks like a few more ££££ any one want to buy a 2004 Black Shogun Sport Warrior?

Ben

crammy 24 February 2009 10:01 AM

i must admit i prefer the blob eye to the bug eye but you got to start somewhere. i will probably have mine for about a year then upgrade to the blob eye. bug eyes to look considerably different with the sti/prodrive style lights

N_Scooby 24 February 2009 11:23 AM

Its a buyers market out there. If there is a blobeye you like for more than you have, just offer them the £7500. If they have morgage arrears etc they may well take you up on your offer. They can only say no (or words to that effect). By the way a tank costs about £50 to fill and I agree with about 250 ish miles to a tank.

Why dont you make a offer on some of these:

Subaru : 2003 Subaru Impreza STI Type UK

West Moors Motor Company : SUBARU IMPREZA STi Version 7

Subaru : 2003 impreza sti type uk full ssh

Subaru : Subaru Impreza STI

Per4mance Cars LTD SW London : Stunning white 6 speed Sti V7 low mileage

I would go for a black bugeye sti 305bhp model or a JDM sti.
I have 1997 type r sti wicked car.:)

GazTheHat 24 February 2009 04:01 PM

About:

- 220 miles on average for 45 litres.
- May be able to get a bargain blobeye (03-05 model)
- Insurance should be around £600-700

Should be no concerns with proper servicing. The struts knocked on the 03 onwards models. Just check when they were replaced, as even the replacements go. I had them changed at 20k miles and needed again at 38k.

phil_wrx 24 February 2009 04:06 PM

that type r looks superb :D

£400???? How do you get it that cheap? Is that 3rd Party? I paid more than that on my Fiesta ST :-/ I'm 31, clean licence and full NCB. My cheapest quote (and I've checked a lot of places) for my current car (MY06 STi with PPP) is £1015. The cheapest I ever got my MY54 STi (without PPP) was £780. I get married next month though so hopefully that'll bring the insurance down a touch.

P.S. All my insurances are Fully Comp

GazTheHat 24 February 2009 04:15 PM

I'm over 30, 6pts, all mods declared (and there's a lot of them) and 2 drivers and it's £640 FC, protected NCB with APlan.

What model do you have? I must live in a right s***e area :lol1:

btwellz 24 February 2009 06:01 PM

I think I have more questions than answers :lol1: :lol1: Been thinking today if I hold on until I sell my shogun I could get an 05 plate , but I guess the more you spend the more you loose. I paid over 9k for my 04 plate warrior last march bet it's only worth 6ish now , I don't want to take another hit on a car. I have been wondering do I spend maybe 3k on an older one n or p plate. I love the Blue with gold wheels that 03 on the link above looks the dogs

Thanks for the reply s

Ben

Mac

AzzDSM 24 February 2009 10:48 PM

if i had 7.5k id be making an offer on this 1

2003 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX TURBO RED (PPP) on eBay, also, Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 06-Mar-09 14:13:31 GMT)

btwellz 25 February 2009 07:55 AM

That looks a good one , not an sti , but still very nice 265bhp. I think I'm going to get my head down over the summer and sell my other cars so I can have the one I want. But heart is rulling my head so if I do see the right car I will find the cash somewhere.

btwellz 25 February 2009 05:15 PM

Any other opinions on the red wrx? Did they ever come in red or has this been sprayed up ?

I wouldn’t buy a WRX for that sort of money keep looking for the right STI ;)
I was offered an average mileage/condition STD 03 STI for 7.5k (was up for 8.5k)
You will regret it if you don’t’ get one most people wish they had got a STI in the first place
