Top mounted oil cooler pics request

Anyone got any pics of their top mounted oil cooler i.e. how they mounted them and size etc? Any problems with the long pipe lengths and the extra oil they hold draining back into the sump when the car is turned off?

Anyone?

i have some, but my computer is being uber slow at the moment, so cant get into my fotki account to show you!

But i have a Hyperflow top mount oil cooler, supplied and fitted by Zen Performance. Came with all the brackets, fits perfect, really good quality.

But then it is the best part of £500 fitted!

BIG FUD 25 February 2009 06:55 PM

£500 is about right for such a set up.....

To answer your question, you should be fine running standard avaiable kits, you shouldn't need a huge one at those power levels. :thumb:

Great kit, comes with all brackets etc needed. So straight fit, no fabrication etc needed!

mental-mark 26 February 2009 04:17 PM

are the fittings 1/2" or 3/4" BSP fittings

Thanks for the replys guys especially the close up ones (FMP) :thumb:

Good to hear nobody's had any problems with them. I'm thinking about running some slightly longer pipes under the engine and up the back so you don't see the pipes at all. I was just worried about the extra oil held in the cooler and pipe lengths running back into the sump and giving a false reading. Over full when stationary and off, and under full when running due to the extra oil needed in the system.

the oil cooler needs to be 'primed' when first fitted.

And basically it always has oil in it, it never drains dry, even when the engine is off. So there is no worry of it over filling the sump when it drains back.

And come oil change time, you just quickly unbolt it, and fill it with oil.

Great bit of kit, will be giving mine a good working at Brands in March! :D

Ah right thanks for that :thumb: I thought about putting a one way valve leading up to the cooler and a low pressure valve on the return pipe. That way the oil couldn't drain back into the sump when the engine wasn't running................sounds like I don't need to bother with something so complex :luxhello:

fmp 27 February 2009 09:10 PM

nope.

as i thought that, but basically Paul @ Zen said due to the fact that the oil pump isnt running and there is some pressure/vacume in the system it doesnt darin back.

fit and forget! :D

Good good. Fitting FMIC tomorrow so then I'll see how big an oil cooler I can fit neatly in the space thats left. Will just buy a mocal oil cooler and get a local technical hose company to make up the lengths and couplers that I need. Thanks for the info :thumb:
