Im in a tuning dilemma - help

Iv had my motor off road over a year styling it & tuning it how i want it. Styling wise im happy, performance wise im stuck now. Take a look below & see what you think. Below il list mods for performance

Spec - my99 uk turbo

Was -
ind kit
remap runnin 1.2 bar boost on td04
2.5 exhaust

Now
Apexi power intake
IHI VF34 (purchased, not fitted)
Hybrid fmic
3' turbo back system, no cats
Walbro 255
Fuel lab fuel reg (purchased, not fitted, will be goin on)
Apexi AVCR - (purchased, not fitted, will be goin on)
HKS plugs

To get
CDF pully set
uprated clutch + flywheel
Nismo 555cc injectors
Management - either apexi or simtek
Headers + up-pipe
remap
ppg box

Iv modded it with torque in mind, so will be getting ligher flywheel, some pullys and deffo want some headers! but this is my dilemma, as i have a rather quick spooling turbo, im worried fitting tubular headers will make the car strange to drive, ie slow boost from my turbo.

I REALLY want aftermarket headers, & atm i have the money set aside for them & the injectors..the rest will follow.

Options
1 keep the vf34, get some ported headers, and have it mapped to safe side of 350/350 and save for my ppg box

2 sack the vf34 off + go for something bigger ie td05 18/20g, go for tubular headers, have it mapped to the other side of 350/350 and run it on borrowed time until the uk box goes then buy a ppg box as & when

Decided this week to get my arse into gear and sort out the remaining few bits i need but iv got myself in such a dilemma, as i really want it done for summer, but want it done properly :freak3: I think option 2 will keep the car off the road for a while longer as im buying everything outright on my own hard earned

Will i REALLY loose that much spool on tubular headers & a vf34??

:wall:

I would have thought you get better spool with the tubular headers? I certainly did.

what turbo you running coc-ker?

With my tubular headers the spool-up was slightly later, about 200rpm the turbo is a VF34 on a newage. I fitted a water/meth injection system and the ignition was advanced which brought spool-up back 500rpm.
The car makes 330lbft between 3900rpm and 5500rpm and it's a hell of a car on the road. My dilema is would moving up a step to a 18gram or ST380 make the car a lot better on the road??? Like everybody I want my car to be as good as it can possibly be. It has to be the right package, a bigger turbo can unbalance the package. It sounds to me that 350/350 on a classic, with VF34 headers, tubular or otherwise would be quite a car.
cheers

I know its not the same car but when I fitted my GT pesc 2 headers and up pipe to my VF35 I actualy gained about 200 - 300 rpm in spool up, but this could possibly be down to the AVCS heads.
If you still want the burble go for the GT spec 2 ones, another good thing is that they dont come with a flexi up pipe and I havent experienced any cracking issues that are assosiated with some other makes of headers

Nice spec btw, it should be a flier

edit
I recon you should stay with the VF34 for now and save for the PPG kit, the car will be mucho rapido with 350ish bhp, it will certanly give our 400ish bhp lardy ass newages a
dont go too light on the flywheel as this will actualy loose you a little torque, Ive gone from my STI clutch and flywheel to an exedy organic racing clutch with a skimmed classic flywheel to a Exedy Hyper twin Compe D clutch which comes with a very light flywheel and I dont like it. Much easier to stall whilst pulling away. My favorite setup was with the skimmed classic flywheel but what I have now is stronger but I wish I hd a heavier flywheel.

Wrighty,

I reckon you need to talk to Harvey, and he's just up from the road from you in Darlington.

I've got a similar spec to your option 1, with Harvey's ported/wrapped headers, and can highly recommend it.

On ecu, you might as well go for Apexi PFC if you've already got the AVCR, or sell the AVCR and go for Simtek.

thats what everyone has said Andy916, we have been in touch, and hes assured me my box should be alrite if its a ty754

Good reply cheers graeme

I just think 'for the price of harveys headers,i could have lighter, better, gt-spec ones. deffo gunna go for apexi pfc now as the simtek looks like it does its own boost control.'

iv got some thinking to do
