Che Guevara - Revolutionary, marxist, hater of capitalist pigs, unoffical Rolex model
Revolutionary.
Marxist. Intellectual. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9042/che2ll9.png What better way to keep track of time in Cuba when fighting in South America - Rolex GMT http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4810/che5ar4.jpg His friend and leader, Fidel Castro always wore two Rolexes at once. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9219/fidel1zv3.jpg While in Cuba, Castro appointed Che President of the National Bank of Cuba. As Che was often away on state visits to the UN, China, Russia, he needed the GMT to keep track of the time in Cuba. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8947/che4kw7.jpg http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9315/che3ky7.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3218/che1ly9.jpg It seemed natural that a guerrilla fighter should have a GMT. That way, he could keep time in the jungles of the Congo and Bolivia while knowing what time it was at home. http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/2536/che6yi3.png After leaving Cuba to start revolutions in other countries, the CIA finally caught up to him. He was captured in Bolivia and executed. The CIA operative, Felix Rodriguez, took Che’s watch after his death. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2717/gmtff4.jpg Che's sturdy and reliable timepiece is reportedly still in Felix Rodriguez's possession and is still working :) How much do you think that GMT is worth??? |
He paid 20 euros and a can of Fanta, he originally bought it from a black gentleman on a beach in Tenerife, if I rememeber rightly he got a Magnum classic thrown in with the deal....
Seriously, great post, as for the worth.....priceless. |
Ernesto "Che" Guevara was a nice middle class boy: so the watch doesnt surprise me.
|
Doctor wasn't he?
Love the fact Fidel has two, one being a President of course  |
Slightly OT but did you know that Rolex saved Owen Wilson's life after his attempted suicide.
PR at it's worst |
I SAW El Che's watch in a glass box in Santa Clara on January 3d. It had a beige face and was no Rolex I can assure you. Put CS3 away ;)
I also saw his beard clippings in a glass box in Havana which bought a very unexpected tear to my eye:cry: D |
Che - Legend. Im currently reading his Reminiscence of the Cuban Revolution. Next on the list is the Bolivan Diary. Its a great book and a good insight into his life. Well recommended for anyone. Bit of an eye openner too :)

Nice to see that looting corpses is still in the CIA's remit ! :thumb:
