I Pod Touch Alternatives :)

Hi All

I just wondered if there was an alternative to the I Pod touch for Music and movies on the move ?

New Apple iPod Touch 8GB 2nd Generation: Amazon.co.uk: Amazon.co.uk:

It's a long story but I think I'm going to have to get something to keep someone amused on the journey to and from school on the bus every day !

Cheers

Nothing that does it with quite the same flare.

I really like my iPod Touch.

Steve

I've never used I tunes before.....is it pretty painless ?

Cheers

I wouldn't describe it as painless. Apple haven't quite figured out how to write software that behaves on Windows. But as a tool to import music, find applications on iTunes and Sync your iPod it is fine.

For Video conversation you want to use something like Videora iPod touch Converter Download

I got a 8bg Touch 2nd gen for Xmas - and adore it. Wonderful bit of kit and I use AVS video convertor to convert movies and TV shows onto it.

Thanks :D

Can I convert MP3 to i-pod format ?

Cheers

Hi Shahn I've got an iPhone which is more or less the same as the touch, if you want to pop into my work and you can have a play around with it. :) Its pretty simple to use, I'm asuming it's for your son, so it'll be a doddle for him :D

Shaun

The iPod will read MP3 files and most others. It doesn't like FLAC and you'll need to convert those with something.

Hi Steve (and Fastermike lol)

See the post above....... Is the I-phone just a i-pod touch with a phone attached ??

If so... then I could ditch the lads Nokia N series :)

Cheers

Yes. Which makes it great -- as you have a permanent connection to the internet. I have an iPod Touch as it was a farewell present from my previous company.

The only downside is that you are tied into a £35/month for 18 months unless you buy a second hand 2G one and jailbreak it to an existing contract.

Hi Steve

Nice :) Thanks for all the help ..Looks like I'm going to look at an I-phone then :)

It's not really my area of expertise so I'm going to need some help LOL

"Ronjeramy" (post number 7) just lives and works up the road from me so by way of this post I'll just ask him about his i-phone and what sort of contract he has :)

Just to make things more complicated I have set up my home wireless network.....and it doesn't work :)

How are you on wireless networks Faster ??

Cheers

Shaun

ronjeramy 15 February 2009 08:22 PM

Shaun i have the £35 contract, which has unlimited Internet on the move and has wifi, so its even quick on the wifi.
As for wifi I'm crap i have wires all round the house :lol1: though it is set up, i don't use it as it has a quicker speeds wired. If your passing the post office pop in and I'll let you have a look at it, it really is a great peace of kit :)

Phil 15 February 2009 09:15 PM

Archos 5

is a good alternative to the Ipod Touch

Midlife...... 16 February 2009 11:09 PM

faster :)

Thanks for the offer to come and have a look at your iphone in action :) ...... Most appreciated :D

It all depends on what James wants to do with his Nokia and the bus journey to school LOL

He really quite likes his nokia (N70) phone so I guess an Iphone isn't an option :)

It's not a money thing as the bus ride into school is £7.20 a day and the food costs £3... so at £10 a day to get him there the Iphone is only 4 days travel costs !

....just off to look at the Archos again.......and the Sandisc offerings :)

Cheers

I'd be more worried about this type of technology getting broken very easily on a school bus (if my school days were anything to go by!)

If I was going for it, I'd look at a big IPod Touch and chuck some movies on it. Be warned though - the Touch isn't exactly school kid proof. There's a BIG touch screen that is open to the "elements" ;)

But that's a BIG "if"....

I have one of the Belkin cases for the Touch and it does a good job of protecting it (not from being thrown from one end of a school bus to another of course ...).

The school bus is pretty tame.......they are meant to sit down for the whole journey and wear seat belts..... :)

Yeah, right LOL

Hey no problem Shaun, if James is intersted your more than welcome to bring him in and let him have a go :) though I can see why a child would rather have the nokia over the iphone :)

ScoobyDoo555 17 February 2009 01:28 PM

LOL - I've got one of those Contour cases for mine. But mine is either in the car cradle, or in my inside pocket, so no real exposure!! LOL!! :D

Best of luck with the choice :)

Dan :)

Does it really have to be touch screen???

the ZEN X-FI is by far a better MP3 player, weighs less, and in my opinion looks nicer, when all said and done all it is, is an MP3 player though and doesn't have the extra swish stuff of the touch.

but like I say, Zen X-FI is the way to go if all you want is an MP3 player.

Midlife...... 17 February 2009 11:32 PM

Creative ZEN X-Fi 16GB with Wireless LAN Compatibility: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Got an old skool archos (80Gb) and its brilliant. Got 30+ Films, 3000 Songs and 2000+ Photo's on it so the 250GB one would store plenty!!

Get the DVR Station and you can record straight from the TV or DVD ;)

Stealth 18 February 2009 02:22 PM

Might well have buttons but sounds better ;)
