Laurel and Hardy

Just been watching some clips on Youtube, forgot how good they were.

Anyone else like them ?

Bravo2zero_sps 13 February 2009 08:07 PM

Yes remember them being on when I was a kid. Used to watch them along with Harold Lloyd and all used to be on BBC2 back then.

Jamz3k 13 February 2009 08:12 PM

haven't seen a clip of Laural and Hardy in about 10years. I'd rather not just incase i dont find it as funny anymore.

Did this with Dads Army and Red Dwarf recently, used to think they were excellent but after rewatching a few episodes, i rose tinted image has gone.

zip106 13 February 2009 08:18 PM

Very funny!

I used to think The Two Ronnies and Morecombe & Wise weren't funny when I was young, but when I watch them now I realise they were actually comedy geniuses, like Laurel & Hardy :thumb:

J4CKO 13 February 2009 08:19 PM

I still find them funny, never really like any of the other old stuff, Charlie Chaplin for example, Laurel and Hardy were funny to look at before they did anything, it may be slight rose tinted specs but watching them again I still laugh, Stan Laurels expressions, Oliver Hardy's pomposity, the slapstick and the desperation of their situation that underpins it, Only Fools and Horses, Steptoe and Son all owe a lot to them, to mention but two.

Bang on, I was around in Eric and Ernies heyday as a kid, it just went over my head, but now I love them.

LanCat 13 February 2009 08:36 PM

Another fan here. Some of their stuff is just superb. By far and away the best comedy of the early days of film.

SunnySideUp 13 February 2009 08:41 PM

Fantastic stuff!! :thumb:

Yes. I am a fan of Laurel & Hardy. I think they are priceless! Have you seen their film with Hardy bragging about his wife, and taking Laurel to his house for a nice and juicy steak, floating in scrumptious gravy? :D Laurel acting to be disabled, and getting pusehed about by Hardy is pretty good too. "I knew he was yellow!" before their dog fight was cooler than anything as well :lol1:

Genius :thumb:

SunnySideUp 13 February 2009 08:45 PM

Where Laurel and Hardy are in bed and the lady of the mansion is going to kill them or have them killed - Laurel wakes to see Hardys toes at the end of the bed ..... thinking that they are someones hand coming to murder them in their sleep, he awakes Hardy - who looks and is also convinced that it is a madmans hand ...... he leans over and grabs the shotgun.

And promtly shoots his own foot off!! :lol1:

There's one when Fat Hardy is bullying skinny Laurel (as usual!) while they both are decorating. Hardy chases Laurel around the room like mad. Suddenly the floor cracks, and Hardy goes through the floor, full of dust, cracking his fat @rse on the basement floor! LOL :lol1:

In one film, they are saving some people from a house fire, I think. The "ladder" episide in that film is so funny that you won't be able to stop crying while laughing your guts off! :lol1:  :lol1:

They used slapstick-cum-silly-billianism:D beyond its own praise, they used it so damn well  Hats off to Laurel and Hardy :notworthy

I also wondered if you slowed them down would they be as as funny :)

Apparently if you speed up the fight scenes in six million dollar man, they are still slow motion :D

I used to love Laurel and Hardy, shame it does not get shown so much any more.

I was just thinking Harold Lloyd as well, great talent, people may think them old but these guys pioneered comedy and stunt work - they are truly fab!:)

My mum's got all (?) their films on video cassette, I'll have to hook up the VCR and watch them again. Great stuff.

Scoob99 14 February 2009 09:26 AM

Used to see them every week at the Saturday Morning Pictures. I still laugh when I remember some of their antics.

They have a pair who look just like them who turn up at Goodwood Revival. Their old car looks authentic when they drive around the place. I keep expecting the doors and wings to fall off!

Les :)

I love the one where they are revamping the boat, and one of them gets his head stuck between the bulkhead and the mast, so he saws the mast off.
Classic humor,
