Neighbours dog left out all day .. driving me nuts
Do I report it to the RSPCA ?

Have a quiet polite word, and suggest that you hope it wont be a regular occurance. If it happens after that.... report it. Only reason for all the questions is the RSPCA have a lot on their plate, so wasting their time (like someone local to a friend recently did) is not really fair. However the dogs welfare is important. Have they lived there long do you know? Has it happened before. Could be loads of thing, local bitch in season for example. Whatever the cause, I hope it gets sorted soon, for both yours and the dogs sake :) |

Hes not a happy bunny and to be honest could end up throwing something not so pleasant over into the garden... If I have a word and then report it, they will know its me and might take revenge. It sounds like it goes in at night. |
They may be completely unaware the dog howls when left alone. Hence a friendly approach is best to start with.

Agree with Nixxon. I have ot myself in a right state when people have been noisy then eventually said something, expecting a fight or similar and suddenly it's all been sorted quite amicably.
Highly likely they don't know it's howling but leaving it out all day sounds a bit off. |
I had this years and years ago when I was younger and much dafter.
My solution at the time was to open the upstairs window and throw down a bucket of water at the hapless dog in an attempt to get it to shut up. Unfortunately for me the little terrier was smart and heard me open the window. It stopped yapping, looked up and did a nifty side step just as I unleashed the water. About ten minutes later the neighbours came home and found a massive wet splodge on their patio on a perfectly dry summers day. They never did ask how it happened but the dog never stopped yapping and always gave me an all knowing smug look whenever I saw it out being walked. I'm not proud of trying to drench the poor pooch but even less proud of being outsmarted by a yorkie terrier :o |
OK, dont shoot be down here:nono: I am far from a cruel man and have had dogs all my life, the last 2 living until the ripe old age of 15, a Springer and a Lab. Both of these where working dogs and lived outside all there lives and i had the RSPCA/Dog Warden visit me on numerous occasions due to concerned neighbours/passers-by reporting the dogs,(not for noise tho) and as tated above if the dog has shelter,food and water and is in a clean state then nothing can be done.
However the best way to stop a dog barking/howling is to use a hose pipe or bucket of water (works like a spray collar), you dont nessicerily (spelling) have to hit the dog esspecially if you use the bucket methord as the niose/shock of 2 or 3 gallon of water landing near it usually does the job. It may take 2 or 3 goes but in 90% of cases it will work, throw the 1st one all should go quiet, as soon as it makes another sound do it again, it has to link the shower with noise so your timing is very important (no good throwing the water when all is quiet). Our neighbour has got a young dog, less than a year old and leaves it in his garage all day long.
Its constantly whimpering and howling and is probably bl00dy well freezing in there with the weather we've been having. The owner then goes out every night from 7 'till 11:30 and the dog again is in the garage durign this time whimpering and howling. We had a word with him and he said if he leaves it in the house it chews everything to bits so thats why he leaves it in the garage. TBH its not the howling that is upsetting us, its hearing the dog is upset that makes us feel sorry for the poor dog. He says it has food and water in the garage, but we still get upset hearing the dogs distress. Nothing much we can do about it :( |
