I could be wrong, but with the cat on I don't think you'll get any flames!
I've got an atmo dump valve, no cats, and induction kit, and I still don't get flames, damnit!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif Leigh |
I do http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
But I don't understand how a dump valve helps you get flames. Blowdog's scoob didn't have one and his car popped and flamed like a good 'un. Many Evo VIs flame on demand but I don't hear them having a dump [ooer] either .... |
Eh ?
How is it going to make any difference whether the air is dumped to the atmosphere or into the air box ? It'll make sod all difference except it will sound stupid (ie like a bus slowing down) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif (IMO) Ps After fitting a K&N I could hear the blinkin thing hissing and farting, very annoying - does anyone know how to quieten it down ? |
Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me the answers to the following question...Call me stupid of something else if you wish... 1. Is it safe to have flames coming out of the exhaust if you've got a dump to air valve ie collins or something ??? 2. Will this screw up the centre cat converter ??? |
I think the difference is vent to atmos blow off values cause the ECU to react by not returning their air back into the system. This has been noted to cause the fueling to get a little on the rich side, hence more backfiring and maybe....only maybe some overrun flames.

I could ( and probably am) talking cr@p here, but I thought an atmo dump valve makes the engine run really rich on over run, hence more chance of flames?

Have a look at

I have been looking into this recently and have come up with 3 things.
1) Air filters and dump valves make a big difference, each having a different effect on your fuel mixture. Vent to atmos generally makes your car run richer, increasing your chance of a flame out, where as an induction kit will do the opposite and increase air flow. 2) Obviously, cats are a no no if you want flames. 3) The thickness and the metal of your exhaust makes a difference also, meaning some exhausts run hotter that others, increasing a chance of a flame out. When you see a car dumping a plume of smoke at a gearchange, that is usually unburnt fuel. If the exhaust was hot enough, it would have ignited. Cem |
Great to see all us "mature http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif" adults debating how to shoot flames at the cars behind!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I'm more than a litte concerned over what happens to the cat with the flames. Poor little kitty.
|
Hmmm its a safety feature as well....
You don't often get tailgaters when you can scorch their bumper with a 'ickle lick of flame http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif |
Aha! So its my exhaust stopping the flames!
Can anyone recommend 'flame-friendly' exhaust that will fit my SS downpipe? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif |
I hadn't realised that mine DID flame until i was driving home late at night last week and noticed a flash on the over-run as i looked in the mirror... all the trees behind me kind of lit up orange!
I've got the HKS valve on my Version 5 and i've noticed it does pop and bang a bit but i haven't stopped grinning like an idiot for the last week. Someone put post on this board a couple of weeks ago asking "Why do old farts in Nissan Micras always flash me when i overtake them" Now i know! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Russ |

Here guyz
If its flames u want magnex r good. Dave`ll vouch 4 that http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...151&p=39418468 Pete |
I have a standard UK MY99 except it has a full ScoobySport exhaust system from turbo back (no Cats http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif).
It now pops and bangs and flames with the best of 'em http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Nothing too violent though http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif James |
If you want plenty of flames then go for a MoTeC ecu with anti-lag and launch control . You get more flames than you can shake a stick at http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
