will my diff fit?

will my diff from a my95 wrx fit a wrx ra gearbox?:wonder:

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 06:16 PM

anyone?

mit 10 February 2009 06:24 PM

No, you'll need the diff too, if it's a 95RA box. The RA has a 3.9 rear diff, the wrx a 4.1
See here for combinations:The SPDA - Transmission Chart

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 06:36 PM

thanks for the reply mate.ive seen the chart but to be honest i havent a clue what im looking for:freak3: wheres the best place to find a diff if i already have a gearbox?:wonder:

mit 10 February 2009 07:04 PM

Is it a 95 box? As looking at the chart, there are diferences on some years.

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 07:07 PM

its an early classic ra i think.not sure if 94/95.the code is ty752vb3ea.

mit 10 February 2009 07:12 PM

Looking at the chart, thats a 95RA box, so will need the 3.9 rear diff.

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 07:15 PM

thanks mate:thumb: any idea where id get a decent diff from?

mit 10 February 2009 07:25 PM

You could try Api? They've been good for me in the past, he'll be able to confirm what you need too.

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 07:31 PM

great.ill try him in the morning:thumb:

banny sti 10 February 2009 07:53 PM

Only the sti ra gearbox needs the 3.9 diff, afaik the wrx ra runs the same diff as a wrx with diff ratio 4.111.

mit 10 February 2009 07:55 PM

My 95RA has the 3.9. Look at the chart above.

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 07:57 PM

i guess its a tricky question.im even more puzzled now:wonder:

banny sti 10 February 2009 08:03 PM

Looks like they gave them the same setup bar the dccd centre on the STi model, my chart also agrees ;)

Good thing is if and when i blow up the RA box, a jdm 6 speed can use my existing diff/shafts/hubs, which is ace!:luxhello:

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 08:24 PM

so it looks like it will fit without another diff then:luxhello:

mit 10 February 2009 08:38 PM

I thought we'd decided you needed another diff, a 3.9?!

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 08:40 PM

banny said i didnt need one as the gearbox is from a wrx ra?:wonder: :wonder:

mit 10 February 2009 08:47 PM

If you look on banni's and my chart, the TY752VB3EA box fitted to the 95 RA uses a 3.9 diff, yours is the 4.1.

Could be a time-wasting and expensive mistake if you fit the wrong rear diff. Your best bet,, as mentioned, is to speak to David at API. He'll defo give you the correct advice - all you'll prob need to do, is give him your 7-digit 'Applied Model' code (it's on the VIN plate, riveted to the passenger front suspension turret)...

mit 10 February 2009 08:57 PM

Yep, he's very helpfull, theres not a lot he doesn't know about diffs/gearboxes!

leeroywrx 10 February 2009 08:58 PM

already pmd him:thumb:

Peanuts 10 February 2009 09:34 PM

buy a rear diff from a sport, they are 3,9.
Personally I dont see any good reason to fit the wrx RA box, sorry.

mit 10 February 2009 10:03 PM

i love my RA box, but it'r all down to personal taste.

Peanuts 10 February 2009 10:07 PM

why do you?
is it the really short ratios that mean you are changing gear constantly or is that you love cruising on the motorway at 5r rpms? ;)

I got rid of my RA box it was just so damned buzzy

joz8968 10 February 2009 10:22 PM

Er... could it not be the blistering accleration WITH the noise? Gets the ol' adrenalin going, I'll wager? :)

mit 10 February 2009 11:03 PM

the cars a toy really, not used on motorways much. I just love the way it pulls in any gear. I admit, it feels quicker than it is!

Underworld 11 February 2009 01:33 AM

Out of about 20 calls to breakers, ONLY A grade had a 3.9 in stock, and asked over £550 for it..

API however did a rebuild on my old one for a bit less...

get in touch with david and he'll advise you in the right direction

joz8968 11 February 2009 09:52 AM

Grade A 'crack me up' with their prices.
