I went to A-plan to get insurance on my 2001 WRX bugeye completely factory standard.
I have 9 years no claim bonus, no convictions, no mods, 38 years old, married etc and they initaially gave me a qoute for around £450 fully comp. Pretty good I thought until I went into one of their branches just to confirm the qoute and was then stunned to hear it was now £1400!!! WTF? I pointed out to the girl who was dealing with me that I already had a qoute for around £450 but she must of typed in the wrong details. She then went over to one of her work mates and after a minute of chatting some1 else came back and told me it was now £570. Ok, better but I made a point of saying that they initially gave me a price of £450 fully comp. I then told them I just look for a better quote. About a week later I got a renewal letter from A-plan insurance giving me a price of £472. The letter did not state if it was fully comp or third party fire and theft so I phoned them up and they told me it was third party fire and theft. I then asked whats the best deal you can do fully comp and they came up with £915!!!. At this point I couldnt be arsed with them any more, and just pointed out to A- plan over the phone that I have had over 5 different qoutes ranging from 450 to 1400. I know insurance may change from week to week but 450 to 1400? Sorry for the rant but they were absolutely useless!! |
Never had any probs with A plan but I have full no claims, very limited millage and garaged.
Fully comp I pay 380 notes with all mods. |
I claimed years ago, and mine sky-rocketed....
Changed to another company, and back to normal, no lack of honesty required either. dunx |

Definitely, I'm yet to stay with the same insurance company since I've started driving.

By all accounts you've sorted cover elsewhere, however, if you want me to take a look into it please give me a call on 01635 874646 and I'll do my best. If anyone has any issues give me a call personally and I will assist where I can. Here in Thatcham we specilise in Subaru's so if you contact your local branch you will not get the discounts or preferred rates we apply here to the Subaru drivers. I like to think I am very approachable and if anyone has questions large or small to give me a ring on 01635 874646. Take care all Rob |
Just to add, the 'close claims' part is nonsense. How do I know? Personal experience ;)
Had my old red Scoob insured through Ecar. 2 claims went through on 20/04/07 and 24/04/07. At the time I had no NCB (only had my license 13 months), and come December '07, my insurance dropped from £1750 to £1250 fully comp, all mods declared. Then with 2 years NCB last December it dropped from £1250 for the Scoob to £470 fully comp for my current 205 (which is only 3 insurance groups lower at 14). Shop around, because some insurers do still rely on folks general lazyness (sp) to not bother searching and accept whats put in front of them. Oh, and the above was with 3 points for running a red light too. :) |
Iv just had a renewal quote from A-plan for my wrx wagon... £390 fully comp with full no claims protected.. Does that sound competative..?
|
a plan beat keith michaels last yr for me by about £100.
can't argue with that really. |

Why should that make a difference??
No one has ever asked me what cars i have driven in the past they just want to know how many ncb u have etc etc. |

Is it the first scoob (or similar insurance group) you owned
Thats an interesting question, because on a couple of occasions they asked me what i have driven previous to buying the Subaru and my response was that i have driven a Peugeot 306 Gti-6 (group 17)for the last 8 years. Thought it was an odd question as well:freak3: . Anyway the ball park at the moment is between 400 and 450 from what gocompared.com and confused.com are quoting me. |

ie - if you have been driving a 1.0 Micra for 5 years, then jump into a 300bhp Impreza they won't want to touch you. |

Lots of companies will only look to quote if you have had experience driving performance cars.

someone went to all the trouble of stealing an airbag and nothing else lol
|
yep they messed the drivers lock up as wellbut the police said that at that time golfs ,leons and skoda which are all part of the vag group had a glitch with the one touch window locking ,which meant that the thief could mess the lock and fool the software into opening all 4 electric windows and deactivating the alarm sensors in the car. the deadlocks stayed on but it allowed the thief to reach in through the front window and take out the centre part of the steering wheel with the airbag, all the wires were simply unplugged there was no other damage to the car.
