Making a website

My dad wants a website for his company and to help him out I was going to try and do one for him.

I made a few websites ages ago when I was about 15 on homeserve I think it was lol

Is there a application where I can do everything and it'll write the HTML code for me ? If you get what I'm saying :s

Also who would you reccommend to host it and buying the domain and the email for @dadsconpany.com.

Will that come with the domain?

There are many web design applications out there. Dreamweaver is one that instantly springs to mind, but it could be overkill for what you want to do.

You may well find that a web host provides a web based site builder, so that may well be all you need.

As for a host, I'd certainly suggest having a look at Titan Internet.

I'm with Markus, dreamweaver is fantastic bit of kit, but it really depends on how much you are willing to spend... I mean MS front page will do a basic website for you with no bother what so ever mate !

Ant 06 February 2009 02:05 PM

Thanks I'll give that look through tonight, I've had some experiance dream weaver.

Also is there premade HTML codes for things like contact us which is a automated email all the user has to do is fill in there details.

You might be better off looking for a good template that you can edit. Just save two copies incase you mess up, a clean version and the one you are editing.

Have a look here for some ideas >>> Download free CSS templates - Free CSS Templates

Theres loads of free templates on google if you look.

Also, for your contact form. There is a simple way to do it here if you're not looking at it being too busy >>> Free Email Forms & Web Contact Forms - myContactForm.com

Hope that helps.

His address Is Premier Digital Services - TV Aerials/Freeview/LCD/Plasma Installation - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Will he own the address or the company?

I have three lesson plans for Dreamweaver I wrote when I was teaching if you want me to email them to you, starts from the absolute basics up to Cascading Style Sheets, I tried to keep them to the point and in total about 20ish pages of A4, including graphics.

Yep certinly good service from Titan, but you do not get a Control Panel to do all the bits and bobs to a website, I have changed my forum hosting from Titan to HostGator, works out under half the cost of Titan and with great speeds and as said above, more utilities.

Heres a quick tip FOC

the site says:

Premier Digital Services specialise in the installation and upgrade of all digital aerials, extra points, freeview, LCD and Plasma screens and digital satellites. We are based in Nottingham and serve all domestic and commercial clients throughout the Nottinghamshire area.

Photos, photos, photos!

Get him a digital camera and get him to take photos of every job he does even if its an aerial on a regular chimney. Then with a little blurb underneath like: new aerial installed, new coaxle cable run to 4 rooms and new amplier unit. i am sure it would get you a lotmore customers!

**** me!

I pay £30 per month for VPS hosting for 6 ecommerce sites!

Hosting for a site like that should be £5 a month!

LeeMac 06 February 2009 10:28 PM

You could host a site like that for hardly anything, I host websites usually ones I have done for 30 euros per year

I think also you should change the domain name, if you want people to find it put some search terms in the name

make sure you get the text and code right within the pages for searches

for what you want you should get top 10 place on page 1 within google

for the page you have already I wouldnt pay more than £50 all in, one outright payment, £30 a month, STOP PAYING NOW

If all you want is a functional website and working services - email, calendar, documents then move him to Google.... for free!!

A small business does not need anything fancy or expensive.

Here's my simple contact site on google www.weconfig.com - We Config there's a link to Google Apps at the bottom.

suba 07 February 2009 12:52 PM

dont like the company logo with the freeview logo. looks like you are limited to freeview. throw in some HD Ready logo, sky HD and freesat HD logo.

Ant 07 February 2009 02:43 PM

but hd ready has nothing to do with aerial installation that's tv sales.

But sky hd and freesat hd logo will be getting added as that was a quick draft

i did a search in google and you are on page 1 for what i searched for so copy the meta tags there now (not important tho) just make sure you have the words in title, description and plenty in your H1 H2 p etc

could go for the googlepages as well whilst waiting for it to appear in searches
