car stereo advice needed please!

Have posted here as replies in the ice section are a bit sporadic...
Ok,have looked at all of the various threads on s/n,some of which are a bit old,so i thought i'd post this question to see what the general concensus is...
I want a new HU to replace my factory unit for my bugeye.Dont fancy a double din for the security aspect,so my options are open and i need some advice.
Will have a budget of about £200-300 and would like to partially pay for some speakers with that money!I like the idea of a single din with one of the forester pockets. What are people fitting these days?.I need something that i can play my Samsung Q1 mp3 through,so i dont really need a cd player as such.Dont want to be fitting lots of components,so would definitely prefer a hu with in built amp.
Was thinking about an alpine 9887R ,pioneer deh700BT or such like.
As most hu these days are built with the i pod in mind, how are other mp3 layers fitted to these stereos???
Also, which companies are recommended to buy from at good prices-online or walk-in???

I've been recommended the Alpine x300, comes in at about £100-120 depending on where you go to. Amazon is somewhere in the middle of that. Has no CD player, but does have an IPOD controller function so it should handle your MP3 player.

I was also looking at the pioneers but they aren't so great with IPOD apparently so that shouldn't affect you.

For A/V i've always gone for Sony, they now do an i-pod dedicated range, starting with the CDX-GT3U @ c£70 through to the CDX-GT630UI @c£140 both within your budget with enough left for a decent pair of 6x9's for the back i think.:thumb: Heres the link In-car USB and Made for iPod® : Car audio : Sony
Suppliers are many and varied but you should be able to get through Amazon for example. Hth ;)

Cheers. Will definitely have a look-i dont have an i pod though,so it would need to be 'other' format compatible, like some of the high end alpine units...
