No fault claim causing headaches...

Right, not sure if i'm p***ing in the wind here, but how silly is it that my one and only no fault claim is causing my insurance to go up ~20%.

I've had my MY02 WRX for over a year and its now time to renew my insurance. Back in March though some bloody idiot decided to park his Renault Clio in the bonnet of my scooby whilst it was parked outside my old address causing ~£2000 worth of damage. At the end of the day all monies were recovered from his insurance and it was closed by my insurer as a no fault claim. In fact the guy was initially persued by the police for driving without due care and attention as he dropped a lit cigarette in his lap which caused the whole accident. I have of course kept my no claims bonus, but now I'm finding that when I declare the accident my insurance quotes are going up by quite some margin, even though I had nothing to do with the accident, the car being perfectly legally parked and my being inside my house at the time. I don't even live at the same address and now park my car off the road!

I've also held a full and clean license for 9 years with no other claims or accidents ever.

Can anybody explain this rationally, or is it just another case of the wonders of the legalised extortion game? :cuckoo:

Right, rant over

Hi Andy,

It's difficult to explain this one rationally, as every Insurer has their own ethos and view as to what will work for them individually.

This isn't a route that our available schemes follow, but some Insurers do load the premium for any incident on the basis to there being a cost to them to maintain or progress any claim (ie staff, engineer, payment to garage pending recovery).

The Insurers that our customers found to do this historically were More Than (Royal & Sun Alliance) and the Admiral Group (inc. Elephant, Lady Diamond, Admiral, Bell) - but presumably you could also add the Insurer that you have experienced this with to the above list.

I can confirm that all of our available performance/modified vehicle schemes do NOT load or apply terms for non-fault incidents where a recovery has been made from the responsible party.

Insurance is a competitive industry, thus if an Insurer operates a stance or policy that you do not agree with, vote with your feet and source renewal terms elsewhere.

Kind regards

Tony

According to Admiral you are statistically more likely to have a fault claim in the next 12 months following a non fault one.:cuckoo: Long time ago someone hit my car whilst parked, we were out and about and we found the damage on our return. How this makes you more of a liability I can't fathom. TBH since using a specialist insurer who actually know the cars and owners a little better than the 'business model' type insurers, I haven't had any insurance headaches.:thumb:
