Whistling/whining noise

Have noticed a whistling (maybe whining) noise between 3.5-4.5k rpm then disappears. Can't notice the noise in 1 and 2 gear. Runs fine apart from this. Went to have it looked at today, no obvious boost leaks, mechanic suspects it could be turbo on its way and will check this tomorrow.

Car is 03 sti PPP and just had remap 2 weeks ago, boosting about 1.4 bar; did not have noise before this.

Anyone had anything similar? Have done searches, but found nothing conclusive.

cheers,
dnc

My 03 STi did this whilst under load and only noticeable after the remap. I posted a similar thread a couple of yrs ago and Andy F responded and put my mind at rest. No worries.

mine does this too but does anyone get a loud whistling noise when "making progress" when wind obviously is leaking past a panel somewhere?

Have had it checked out today. Turbo is buggered - as from thread title it seemed like whistling at first but then more like a whine. Apparently its coked up and has a bit of play in shaft. Found some swarf in filter.

Am now getting an 18g fitted :)

Cheers for replies
