Semper 28 January 2009 04:57 PM

Sorely tempted. I have an old + box and it's ****e. 10kb storage or something! :P

Jay m A 28 January 2009 05:51 PM

Mmmmmmm almost there, just need them to drop the monthly charge like they did with the Sky+

LC Geezer 28 January 2009 06:02 PM

Yep - then (and only then) will I sign up to it.

Ant 28 January 2009 06:08 PM

why there only the best option at the moment for HD i can't see it happening anytime soon

Dan Gleebits 28 January 2009 07:05 PM

Cost to the business for purchasing HD content prohibits it at this current time.

Jeez.... Chariddy case or wot!

I upgraded just before Christmas. Got the same type of deal. I DID hear from one of the operatives that there was a very real chance that the HD subscription charge would be dropped pretty soon.... Of course, he couldn't confirm exactly when ;)

Hope so :D
It is good though - I have noticed one MAJOR issue though.

Being an SD luddites, both Wifey and I have found bouts of fatigue after watching HD..... and I can only put down to having to digest more visual information.....we're not used to it!

Does this sound plausible?

Dan :)

Christ on a bike, if I was to upgrade to HD with my current package I'd be paying nearly £70 per month for bloody television:eek:

Leslie 29 January 2009 12:13 PM

As an existing customer you have to sign up to multiroom either at £3.90 per month or £9.25 if you have sports or films in order to get the +HD box. I think I have the prices correct.

That puts the monthly cost up a fair bit I think.

Les

urban 29 January 2009 12:17 PM

I've been told this by someone who works for SKY

"For existing customers £49 with £30 for install although if you take multi-room at the same time they will wavier the £30 install charge. "

He also said that there are no plans whatsoever to drop the monthly charge.

Sorry If I'm being dim, but I currently have the basic package on crappy old non +, non digitial etc... So If I'm reading this correctly: £79 to get the box and have it fitted and then for 9.95 I get sports channels and film channels in HD for 9.95 extra a month? That's a lot less than it would cost me to specify the sports and movie packages on top of what I have already.

Sounds like a good deal?

urban 29 January 2009 12:32 PM

Nearly :D
If Only !

If you already have sports & films then you can watch in HD for another £10

Shaun

Jay m A 29 January 2009 12:49 PM

As urban says.

NS its a good deal though for £79 since You'll need the multi output LNB fitted so at least the engineer has to do something.

Since I already have sky+ all the guy has to do is deliver the box and change the card over, easy £30!!

Gear Head 29 January 2009 12:53 PM

Can you have a sky+ box for this price without paying for HD. I don't see the point of paying for HD is we don't have a HD tele! :D

Awww Bollox: There's always a catch, so basically I'd get all the HD channels that were not movies or sports....i.e. Sky one and National Geo etc?

g7prs 29 January 2009 02:24 PM

I am getting it next week as a new customer.

One of payment of 49.99 for the box and then 27 pounds a month for the variety pack and knowledge pack .

No installation or set up fee.

EddScott 29 January 2009 03:10 PM

We are on our 6th or 7th HD box since christmas and the current one has played up too. The HD boxes are sh1te and to be perfectly honest unless you get HD movies and sport theres only a few channels worth watching.

I about to have a word because as we don't have sports and movies our multiroom should only be £5 and we are paying £10.

Whats wrong with the HD boxes?
I currently have the SKY+ box and only ever had 1 problem with it.
Had SKY+ for approx 1.5 years now.

I did read that there were lip sync issues with HD, but sky had issued some sort of fix?

Typical, I've just put in a Sky HD box I got off eBay cause my old Sky+ box died!!
Paid more than £70 as well!! (although I've got no interest in subscribing to the HD channels).

Just out of curiosity, since you have put your hd box in do you get any of the free hd channels like bbc ?

Ant 29 January 2009 06:12 PM

I doubt as I would imagine hd need turning on skys end

chrisdicko 29 January 2009 06:19 PM

I think you do for some reason........like BBC HD etc.

chrispy200+ 29 January 2009 06:31 PM

yeah i have heard that you get the basic hd channels free if you buy the box not through them, my mate bought an HD box with no sky subscription and i'm pretty sure he has them, you just dont get the 1 years manufacturers warranty

chrisdicko 29 January 2009 06:32 PM

Plus you get a lot better picture with the HD box, so thats a bonus.

IWatkins 29 January 2009 06:42 PM

Are you *buying* a HD box or are you paying to *replace* you current box with a HD box. i.e. can you keep your current box in this deal ?

Cheers

Ian

Rob_Impreza99 29 January 2009 07:51 PM

Ive taken sky up on their offer today of the Hd box for £79, i filled out the online registration form and the confirmation has been sent via email. Its just a matter of waiting now for sky to get in touch with a delivery date via email.

What i wouldn`t mind knowing is can you get in touch with sky and ask for a certain make of box to be delivered ? Last year we went through 5 sky+ boxes that were all faulty and they were Thomson and Amstrad, the Pace Sky+ box we have now has been very good so far *touch wood*.

Ant 29 January 2009 07:57 PM

ask the engineer on the day for either a pace or samsung box

PaulC72 29 January 2009 08:02 PM

We would move to sky if they didn't charge the additional 10 for the hd per month.

I think others have answered this already, but yes I get BBC HD, C4 HD and a few other ones. None of the Sky HD channels though obviously.
