17x8 wheels on classic pics request!

Hi all

Am considering replacing the wheels on my MY99 Uk classic, it currently has the Speedline ST2 wheels in 17x7 which I really like except that they do not sit out far enough in line with the wheelarch.

Considered going down the spacer route to bring them out a touch but have heard using spacers is not advisable for many reasons.

Initially decided to go for a set of 18x7.5 P-WRC1 wheels I bought off the forum a while back but having read a few posts on the "17" or 18 debate for a classic" I am inclined to stick with a 17" rim.

Really want to go for an 8" wide wheel with a 40 or 45 ratio tyre though to get that "flush with the arch look" and I have a friend who rolls archs professionally if clearance becomes an issue.

Please could anyone post some pics with the 17x8 wheels fitted and any clearance issues you may have had to get round.

Am most probably going to go for the Revolution Millenium wheels in 17x8 size so it would be awsome if someone could post pics of these fitted??

Thanks in advance!

I know Anger has just fitted some 17x8 to his classic, might be worth pm'ing him for some pics :thumb:

amazing how much difference an inch makes....................;)

carlito 27 January 2009 08:23 PM

Mate, that is exactly the look I'm after!

did you find any inner or outer arch clearance problems?

Also what suspension set up and tyre size are you running?

Are they Inovit's?

How do you find the handling on them?

Sorry for the questions but just want to make an informed decision on what to go for on my car.

The white on red looks awsome!

Anyone else with 17x8's on please??

Yep! sure does....

I've got the Prodrive Speedline ST2's on mine at the mo and I think it's one of the best suited wheels to the classic but they are only 7j and really look far too set into the arches on the back.

Really did not want to change them and was close to going down the spacer route to bring them out at the back.

Think in the long run it's probably better to go for a wider rim though.

Also, looking at the pictures, the look without the sideskirts and rear bumper end skirts that come on the Uk classics looks awsome with the 17x8 wheels and mudflaps giving that true "rally" look IMO.

More pics please!

Hi mate, no rubbing issues as it's not that low, The cage has dropped the rear a tad but still does not touch.

Wheels are MAK's nothing fancy. Rubber is Yokohama 215x40x17 prada spec 2's.

Handling seems fine, more grip than I dare to use :)

I'll try and find out what the offset is.

Shocks are leda coilovers.

The camber was adjusted and ive only had one little bit of rubbing and that was on the edge, i will get the arches rolled tho when it goes in for the interior respray and a few other bits that need to be tidied up :)

Anger, cheers for the pics...

What offset are you wheels mate??

Anger 29 January 2009 10:16 PM

35 mate :D

carlito 29 January 2009 10:18 PM

Been speacking to a guy called John at rallysport who has a set of these, the TH2's usually seen on Lancia integrale's in 8x17 ET50 pcd 5x100 and is doing a pretty good price.

TH2-1780

I think it's an awsome wheel and have not seen it on a classic yet, according to compomotive, they are specifically sized for the GC8 Impreza and will clear the STI Brembos If I ever decided to fit them.

Should be pretty good quality and strong being a comp wheel made for road and rally.

What do you guy's think??

Anger 29 January 2009 10:28 PM

Nice looking wheel, but need to see them on a classic before knowing for sure how there look :)

Are you going to stick with silver ?

carlito 30 January 2009 12:13 AM

NO to keen on the silver....they will be in gold mate. ;)

Like the look of your wheels mate, what are they?

is it due tot he ET35 offset they come out quite far?

Anger 30 January 2009 08:11 AM

I was gonna say gold would look better mate ;)

There Rota Force and yes they stick out because the ET, saw a few time attack cars with them and had to have :D

Slowboy Racing 30 January 2009 08:24 AM

You can run an ET35 but you must have at minimum adjustable top mounts as Anger mentioned above, even then you may have to do a little arch rolling depending on your driving style.
The Front wings on the Subaru are very flexible and wont need to much attention as they can be pulled out by hand along with the correct camber settings. We Ran ET35 with no arch rolling on the rear just the correct amount of camber allowing the tyre enough room not to rub. For cars with standard or soft setting coilovers ET35 is not a good idea..

Anger wheels look good bud :thumb:

Anger 30 January 2009 08:36 AM

Thanks Neil :thumb:

The pics are a little dark but these are 8x17 TE37s on my Classic, ET35 that I've just sold.

They had 235/40/17 tyres on but I had to roll the arches to get them to fit, the fronts were easy to do whilst the rears took a bit more work, but was still no big job.

You could run a marginally higher offset or just run 225s and probably get away with minimal or no arch mods. I think TH2s would look spot on, I'd considered getting them for myself, but assumed they weren't the lightest of wheels!
