Re-Mappers?????????

Hi people,

just had the engine light taken off again and the code was p0420,

Thinking of going down the road of getting it re-mapped to keep that light off so where do people take their scoobys to get them mapped.

Cheers

Ade

wrxandy 25 January 2009 08:03 PM

hi mate 1st you got to work out why the light has been coming on in my opinion 2nd is it due for a service as any of the top tuners will ask if it is due or been serviced recently as there is no point mapping a car that is not running right to start off with so all the little problems need to be sorted before thinking of a re map

Well the light is on for the code above which is (i don't know the exact words) lambda exceeding threshold or something like that.

It is due for the 72 month/60,000 mile service which its booked in for on the 11th Feb. The cars a 02 bugeye with 39k mile on the clock.

wrxandy 25 January 2009 08:20 PM

could be a number of reasons why the lambda 1 comes up and is not always the lambda at fault, from memory that service is aplug change aswell isnt it so could be as simple as bad running as spark cant keep up with fuel as plugs are shot, most tuners wont touch a car thats not running right when goes in,if you looking at stage 1 then your looking at around 10 to 15 % extra so around 220 to 225 bhp at fly once you get engine sorted 1st of course assuming yours is not an import

M12NTA 25 January 2009 08:25 PM

no not an import,

like i said the service booked for 11th feb and is the spark plug 1 and was never gonna get it mapped before then anyway.

M12NTA 25 January 2009 09:17 PM

as above again then guys.

Where have people got theier cars re-mapped.

I'm in south-east. colchester area.

Abit nearer would b nice

Midlife...... 25 January 2009 11:22 PM

CEL code P0420 is "cat below efficiency".......usually because you have removed it LOL

For the Bugeye, the Denso ECU ignores it so no loss of power :) just a bit irritating.

Any reputable EcuTeK mapper can sort it for you and there are loads to chose from.

What is more important is to check with the mapper you chose what has been done / can be done to the car before it's re-mapped :)

Bugeye de-cat with change of filter is good for 250BHP plus.... D :D

Cheers for the info mate, this is my first scooby and i'm trying to get more clued up about them, what do u mean by denso ecu?? and i know u say no loss of power which is right but can it cause any damage running like this cause it will still b a little while before i'm ready to re-map?

Cheers

bttt

Midlife...... 26 January 2009 07:22 PM

Ade

I've had my bugeye and have been modifying it for 6 years and I'm still learning LOL

Denso is the ECU manufacturer, the classics had an ECU manufactured by JECS (I think) and was not as good.

The Bugeye ECU is actually pretty clever and can easily adjuct fuelling, ignition and boost for the loss of the cat. Don't worry about the effect of the P0420 CEL as it's a warning that the cat isn't working very well and doesn't cause any running issues at all. :)

I havn't looked at your scoob but I just need to check if it's a WRX.

Cheers

Midlife...... 26 January 2009 07:24 PM

Yep,, it's a WRX so no issues about de-catting it :D

The Bugeye STi sometimes gave boost spikes when de-catted because of the larger turbo, the smaller TD04 in your WRX does not suffer this problem :D

Nice car :D

Can come to your door and remap it and map out the error code.

however is the car decatted? if not you might actually have a failed cat etc..

Yes mate, it is de-catted

Jolly Green Monster 26 January 2009 08:16 PM

so you would gain more throttle response and power and torque by having it mapped and the light wouldn't come on..

Depends how annoying the light is :)

Simon

Midlife...... 26 January 2009 11:13 PM

errr forget about the light ...... concentrate on the paragraph which Simon has typed

"so you would gain more throttle response and power and torque by having it mapped and the light wouldn't come on.."

:D :D

You would not believe how the japs strangled the UK Bugeye WRX / STi performance from the factory. Shocking !!

Shaun

wrxandy 27 January 2009 03:45 PM

if your light keeps annoying you that much then what about buying a code reader which will remove fault code when it comes on until you get things sorted they are faily cheap on e bay and will save going to dealers etc to get light off every time

andy

Had the light taken off 2 days ago and it hasn't come on since. the last time i had it taken off it come on within about 15mins. Strange:wonder:

I do wanna get it mapped now.

M12NTA 27 January 2009 06:58 PM

so how much should i b expecting to pay for a re-map for my bugeye with a de-cat system and filter???

Ibiza_Cupra 27 January 2009 07:38 PM

i got the same code comming up on my blobeye, so got myself a de-cat system on the way, and will then get y mapping done :norty:

Nice 1 mate,

I'll b honest, i've never had a car re-mapped b4.
Yours say prices FROM £550. would it cost more than that then.

Cheers

Jolly Green Monster 27 January 2009 10:15 PM

550+VAT the "from" is only as there is fuel costs if I travel to you.. but I get over to essex regular enough that it wouldn't be an issue.

Oh right,
How long does it normally take mate.

Jolly Green Monster 27 January 2009 10:23 PM

varies from car to car but 2 to 3hours roughly.

Simon

Midlife...... 27 January 2009 10:56 PM

You have to experiance a re-map to see how it transforms the car :)

The real problem is how addictive the next stage becomes ..off the top of my head my bugeye has had the following BHP (ish)

215 (factory)
240 (EkuTek 1..remember them)
325 ( TD05 turbo with mods)
375 (TD05 18G with mods)
400 (methanol injection and more)

Slippery slope LOL
